Re: Press forming basics

My dies are mounted on a 2" threaded solid steel rod, not a pipe. I have done some experiments with the 2" pipe and it deforms badly under 20tons of pressure. I don't recommend it.

Re: Deflexion

This stuff looks even better for rapid impact protection. Funny I found it by checking out videos of the deflexion stuff and came across a comparison video where this d3o stuff seems to outperform the deflexion material in impact testing.

Re: How would you fix this helm?

Yeah I figured an added tab to the visor arms would assist to correct it but there would still be much tweaking involved in trying to get the visor to sit right. I also assumed that the owner doesn't have the needed tools to do it or else we wouldn't be having this conversation. And with all that ef...

Re: Knights of Mayhem - did you watch?

I am sure most of it is editing out what the network considers boring and I agree I have met very few Equestrians who didn't put their horse above all else in their lives. I think half of the issue is a poor presentation for the sport. The other half of the problem is Charlie is pretty much a dick. ...

Re: Knights of Mayhem - did you watch?

Loyd, I didn't say I saw them abuse the animals. Thier attitudes about the animals however was pretty much treating them as farm equipment. Half of Jousting is the horses and I would have appreciated a bit more focus on the animals who are also being put to hazard with the intense style of smash up ...

Re: How would you fix this helm?

I agree with Odd. 350 is a bit high for a "finished" helmet that requires adjustment like that. It could be fixed pretty easily but I suggest sending it back for a refund and then spending the money with any number of armorers here that would do a far superior job for a similar price or le...

Re: Custom SCA sport helm

The third hat has the spirit of the Middle Ages in it rather than the Spiryte of ye SCA. Guess it is the lack of bargrill. (Well, it did when it just had the small holes. The biggies have their function, but they're so utterly nonmedieval.) That sort of form is not too unlike that of a, say, c. 143...

Re: How do you get this finish?

Careful with the wire wheels if you go that route. Use gentle pressure because a stiff wire wheel can scratch deeper than you want and can leave kind of a pitted finish. And always wear safety glasses when using wire wheels! Those wires have a tendency to come out and they become flying needles that...

That is not the assumption. He knows who I am in the SCA and I expect that while I should only be considered as one individual "opinion", sound logic should be taken into consideration. That is the issue I have with his decision on this particular ruling.

So long as the BOD doesn't disagree with his safety decisions he can basically make whatever rule he wants. The SEM is the rules make...

Harbor frieght air planisher.

I have one. It is awesome on aluminum, works very well on 16G mild steel, pretty good on 16G stainless and does absolutely nothing but make a hell of a lot of noise in my futile efforts to planish 14G stainless with it.

For items that require full dishing that I don't want the surface marred by my vice grips I normally leave a small tab or two that I can grip with the vice grips until the dishing is finished and then just cut off or grind away the tab I used to hold the piece. Much safer method than holding the edg...
