Re: Rule Changes
I think gauntlet strikes to face are fairly uncommon even with single handed weapons and a significantly less harmful than those from basket hilts though I have nothing but personal observation to back it up. It is clearly noted by Omarads response that two handed weapons, which normally have no bas...

Re: Rule Changes
No harm no foul Thomas. When I initially wrote that first idea for a rule I realized that it would eliminate buttspikes altogether which is not the goal. A rule about basket hilted weapons would be a better fix to what I see as a more common problem. I have in years past seen some pretty stupid butt...

Re: SCA Kits that give a good impression
That's not fair. I don't really feel (from my perspectivee anyway) that I tear people or their kits apart. I'm always picked on for what I say, never complimented on all those things I don't say. Thanks for not mentioning my fantasy wolf helm then Chris and shredding my less than historically accur...

Re: Rule Changes
So quite uncommon then. And the rule would still stand keeping folks from putting a thrusting tip near a basket hilt while still allowing buttspikes on 99.9% of the rest of the polearms out there. A simple fix to a simple problem. And it didn't take me a year and a council of marshals to think of it.

Re: Rule Changes
Count Johnathan, I read your entire post, I also read this post that said the greatsword issue that you said could happen isn't happening: 1h and 2h weapons are used entirely differently. We had issues with 1h and not 2h. We regulated 1h (48" and less) Your proposed rule change would also make...

Re: I want to learn more about Polypropylene swords!
I provided pictorial evidence of my experience with these plastic sticks. That is all the support I need to have an opinion on the matter. I've seen rattan break and yes I have seen some larger chunks fly a good distance but I have NEVER seen rattan shatter in the manner that these plastics can. The...

Re: Rule Changes
That is correct Thomas which is why the new rule does nothing to resolve the issue of gauntlet strikes to the face which is what it was intended to do. It's also the reason the next part of the post you just quoted a small portion of says ... As it stands now I can have a buttspike on my greatsword ...

Re: Valsgarde 6 Helm from Zweihammer
I like the diversity of appearance this kit offers. I have seen many of them on the field and while they are obviously the same pattern they all seem to have their own characteristics. It is the coolest of helm kits that I have seen.
Well done.

Re: I want to learn more about Polypropylene swords!
It's just that you can't determine what material a guy is actually using Omarad. I know you like the idea of plastic sticks and believe me so do I but the reality is some of the sticks shatter almost like glass and others seem to hold up for years. There is simply no way to know what each person is ...

Unless you got stabbed in the face with one and then you're dead.
Just sayin'.
Mankind has been stabbing eachother with pointy sticks, animal horns, rocks and eventually metal objects for all of our history.

Sir Omarad, detailing that a thrusting tip should be a certain distance from the handle of the weapon (like 12" or something) rather than suggesting that weapons under a certain length couldn't have thrusties at both ends would be better to eliminate the fist or basket hilt to the face issue th...

Thanks.

The back of your shield looks like ass. No shit... did you actually bother reading the post? The tape was a repair after being on the field for 1/2 the day and taping it back down looks a hell of a lot better than pulling it off and fighting with an unfaced aluminum shield... Just to be fair the hocky stick dude was not in a silly weapons tourney. That was at Estrella and that is what he simply chooses to fight with. I don't see the need for people to be banned from the field for a dress code however. I think they should be encouraged to improve their look but not be rem...

Re: "How could we help improve the look of the SCA"
The awards sounds good to. But I don’t think they need to be institutionalized per se. Therefore I have decided that I will take gifts with me in the future to larger events to give as a token of appreciation to other fighters who’s appearance and behavior on the field are of personal inspiration t...

hey Diglach... I agree a prize of that nature does two things. It rewards the individual who goes the extra mile as well as showing everyone else that making the effort is actually considered important enough to be rewarded publicly. A little recognition for making the effort goes a long way towards...

Re: "How could we help improve the look of the SCA"
I meant that sincerely. A prize not related to the prowess of the individual but by how accurate the kit is. Have some laurels look over the entrants throughout the tourney and at the end give an award (almost as big/significant) as the one for winning. This can inspire competition and generate ent...
