Re: Worst Pennsic XL Moments!
I didn't intend to imply that he would "make a spectacle" over this, but, that if he felt that he was NOT allowed due process, that he would have spoken, as a Peer, to at least the King/Queen of his kingdom about the matter. I also said that I know "of" him - hell I could have f...

I can't comment on what he did or did not do. I was not there. I must trust the decision that he did something foolish. I actually have more regard for the man, one that I have bnever met, for takign his lumps it what seems to have been an honorable manner. Was he wronged? Prehaps. Again, not there...

Re: Worst Pennsic XL Moments!
I am sure that HG would have made it abundantly clear to the powers that be that he was wronged in the decision, and that he would have appealed the judgement. That he did not, to me, speaks volumes. Then you really don't know him as much as you think you do. Taking the high road and not causing mo...

Tsk tsk Balin. Some people don't know what you know. Let them continue to show their ignorance with their nonsense. I find it humerous. Don't ruin my good time with reality.

I agree Avery, and Nissan. I'm going to ignore the personal conflict that some are having with Balin over this because most of it has no bearing on the conversation. In regards to the OPs subject matter, in this particular case what some seem to be missing is the person in question and who he is exa...

Uhh it's not just some random people your talking about. It's one of the first 10 fighters ever in the SCA who helped to build this organization from the ground up. A 65 year old man who managed to "charge" 20 yards and football tackle an archer as revenge when the man openly supports CA a...

This is why from the very start, I opted to build a substantial press for 98% of all my dishing and an air hammer for planishing.

So you are saying that Flieg actually intended to do something bad and willingly accepted punishment for it?
Interesting. I wish the story were a bit more clear. It makes little sense to me as it stands with so little infomation to go by.

Re: Perfect SCA legal Mail mittens
Perhaps a hardened leather gauntlet with maille sewn to the outer surface or a maille mitten worn over the top of them would be workable. I couldn't see that costing as much as a pair of nice finger gaunts.
Would be cool to see maille mittens made functional for SCA use.

Re: Calcio Storico Fiorentino: Cause Football is For Wimps.
Long ago when Chris Gilman setup the ESPN show that filmed Estrella war, Calcio Storico Fiorentino was also featured in the same special. I was as excited to see that as I was to see myself run a flank on ESPN. I think it should be televised in the US. Hell I think we should adopt it as a pro sport ...

Now imagine that you had been swinging a stick for 10k hours not just wearing the gear. I have more than 10k "in armor" but our fights last only 10 to 30 seconds max on average. The rest of the time in gear is just waiting to fight normally.

Re: 10,000 hours?
10,000 hours in harness on the field swinging a stick? I doubt that more than a small handfull of fighters will ever even see that number. Realistically practice at most is about 2 hours long and not 2 straight hours of fighting. I've never seen anyone continuously fight for 2 hours straight. At my ...

What about using a piece of round stock for it instead? That should eliminate those pesky corners. Of course you said this was to fit a square tool holder, so . . . I answered my own question. Not a bad idea though and a piece of roundstock the same od as the square holders id would still be held f...

I'd like to eventually get a maille hauburk but having worn maille in the past I don't like the idea that if something bad happened to me on the field people wouldn't be able to get my armor off of me. With that in mind I have been considering splitting a hauburk up the front, edging both sides in h...

Come to think of it I don't think I have ever seen a salute that I considered rude or offensive. It is simply an acknowledgment of your opponent. Sometimes the manner of the salute can give a clue about the aggression level of the fighter that gives it (shield bashing or head smacking can indicate a...

I must add that if the goal is to win, the most important thing is to win well your Grace. Meaning clean. Not cheating your opponent in order to get the win. Fight hard. Fight fair. Win clean.
I am sure you agree with this but I felt it was important not to leave that out for the masses.
