Re: Video of forged brim German Burgeonet
When striking the face of an anvil one should always wear hearing protection. Notice how you cn't hear what he's saying when he hitting it? What? Yeah. Otherwise cool stuff. I like watching folks hit metal with hammers.

It's true, the crafty Atenvelders fired propane cannons with soccer ball ammunition one year. I remember very clearly sometimes dodging the oddest 'ammunition'. It was/is all part of the fun. Another year they wanted to roll hay wagons over us, but we drew the line on that one. Regards Avery You're...

Dude. It wasn't a historical essay man. You know when guns started taking over as the main weapon in war instead of those guys with swords... that's when..... oh to hell with it. I should know better than to care about this particular thread.

A set of Mylec gloves underneath should make them fairly sound . I've seen much much worse.

Oh yeah, and don't block with your hands anyway regardless of what gauntlets you have!

Ok fine 1400s in any case when "knights" in shining armor were no longer the most effective troops on the field.

We "Attempt" to recreate the middle ages ... before the introduction of "gun powder" into middle Europe What about SCA personas after 1300? I was wondering about that as well. It was in use then. I think we can all agree that guns were not extremely effective tools on the battle...

Which is exactly why I think you should go for it. I feel the same way. I am sure many would be concerned that if I were to somehow magically become the SEM I would make dramatic changes to the game but, like you, when in a position of authority over such things I put my personal preferences aside t...

Yeah a bit larpish I agree but perhaps a limited number of "flaming arrows" (arrows with colored streamers) per archer to inflict an instant kill (whole body target) or to attack siege engines or walls etc. might be an interesting concept in some of our battle developement.

I have the "Nashorn Kegel" which is German for Rhino cone. It's the footmans mace I made from a dog chew toy called a rhino cone.
I still haven't used it yet since it seems to be such an unfriendly weapon.

A guy who praticed for ten minutes with a crossbow can easily get twice the number of kills than the most skilled twenty year veteran melee fighter. And suffer no pounding to t...

Well consider the idea of using a cheap fiberglass bow and how much would you care if it got hit by a stick? It would do little or no damage to the bow so no need to throw it down and if you could put it in the way of a sword blow and swing back with your own sword it would make the prospect that mu...

Re: I think I have a fix for CA...
How much of this is due to a lack of authorization or willingness to fight, and how much is just due to the hassle of needing to safely stash your bow before drawing a weapon is the question. If it's mostly the latter, addressing that issue might be a very positive change. Perhaps limited deploymen...

If they can. A lot of times they don't have the time to go put their bow down in a "safe zone" so that they can fight. I'm not suggesting that they wouldn't fight but our rules don't make it easy for them to do that. And my experience has been about 50/50 of people who yield and those who ...

With the stupid rules of engagement we have currently, CA is as well, only the targets move around and get annoyed when shot.

We live in a Kingdom where archery is not very popular. We don't need too. Aside from this I am not interested in autocrating or setting up events nor am I interested in going through the headache of trying to put together an event and working around an already immensely busy kingdom calendar.

THAT is precisely my premise. That we are on a path to irrelevancy (and extinction once we all age too much for activity) -- and that perhaps the best way to avoid that destiny is to reinvigorate the "big tent" inclusiveness that you describe. Thanks! Max Von Halstern I can see the point ...

A question to Johnathan and Balin: Have you considered autocrating a "missile-free" War? It would be a great place for all those who dislike being shot at, and those who like to shoot or be shot at would know well in advance that they needn't be bothered with bringing their gear. Just a t...
