Who on earth makes spears out of 2" rattan? That's just poor weapon design IMO.
Raquetballs 2.25" yes. A little tape around the outside and they compress to 2" easily. Yes use the whole ball and they don't bottom out. It is the perfect thrusty and cheap as hell.
What does that have to do with what the difference would have to be between a 2" tip on rattan as opposed to a 2" tip on fiberglass? The 2" mandrake tips were originally designed for rattan weapons yes? What makes them OK for fiberglass? My 2" tennis ball tip on my rattan spear i...
Putting something in print doesn't make it true, brewer. I know exactly where you got that quote from. I'm telling you what the SCA really is, not what it says it is. Blackbow I've said this before but apparently I am wrong because "the internets says so" It seems that those of us who und...
The slight discomfort lets you know that you didn't forget your most important bit of armor. If you're comfortable it means you forgot to put on something important.
How would they even know what's inside? I suppose they wouldn't, but since I prefer to follow the rules even when no one is watching I figured I would ask. That's a given since you asked and I commend you for it. It just dawned on me that the mandrake tips are fully enclosed so I am wondering how a...
I'm no duke (but I've trained quite a few) and I am 5'11" - 215lbs currently. When I was winning tourneys I was around 210. I find that when I am under 200lbs my fighting suffers greatly. Even at 190 I had issues. I am guessing it has something to do with my particular style and body mechanics ...
Zinc is commonly found in paints, metals, cleaners, solvents, and other construction materials. Other common materials and products containing zinc include rubber, varnish, dyes, and rust-proofing agents.
Well it says... 1. NO METAL OR UNAPPROVED RIGID PLASTIC MAY BE USED IN THE STRIKING SURFACE OR SURFACES OF ANY WEAPON. and later.. 2. Rattan-cored Siloflex or Siloflex equivalent weapons shall be constructed using tubular materials meeting ASTM standard D-2239 or the international equivalent, with a...
"11. Rattan shall not be treated in any way that will substantially reduce its flexibility (e.g., treated with wax, resin, fiberglass, etc.). 12. No weapon shall exceed 6 lbs (2.73 kg)." another silly rule, sort of. heres why: this rule implies that rattan must be flexible. yet i can buy ...
Light shots don't cause swords to flex over flesh. I didn't say he was cheating. It's his call. I just think that it must be hard on the body to win fights like that. Count Johnathan, It raised my eyebrows watching it too, however; Read the comments posted on the Video. I think the man you are look...
It isn't illegal actually as long as it isn't "treated in any way that will substantially reduce its flexibility" according to the rules. Just putting some on the tip wouldn't reduce the sticks flexibility at all. Soaking it would be bad because the glue will harden and reduce it's flex. D...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEFRBsgbKjA&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL I'm pretty much a fan of every fighting video with Magnus in it. The way he flows with the fight is quite fun to watch. I do hope praise is going towards the fighter who "lost" in that video. His movement and ...
It does really depend on what their defense looks like and what option looks most available. Whatever appears to be most vulnerable is what I throw at first. The most versatile blow is the flat snap. Think of it as your jab. It can keep the opponent at range. It can interrupt a combo and force them ...
Here's what I don't like about CA from a sport angle (again): CA violates the spirit of the game. Amongst other things, CA allows people to hit those they have not acknowledged in the fight, and allows the shooter, not the target to call the shot. FALSE. CA "calling the shot" rules are pr...
Since when did we pressure folks to fight? Since when was anyone else responsible for making you drink water? It has been many years since any kingdom I know of had "drinking tubes" and the SCA as a whole has eliminated the position of water bearer (for the very reasons you mention) so wha...
I've already described ways to make arrows where they will sooner break in half than become "bluntless piercers" so now the SCA needs to show some leadership and "lead the way" in making a safer arrow that still functions enough like an arrow. I still agree that the current arro...
Correction, I just read the thread. He did not report a broken neck. He has a long slender neck and was wearing sub par equipment and took several shots to the same spot and continued to fight several times even though he knew his neck was injured. Nevermind about the excessive force comment I made....
We'll disagree on acceptable levels of safety then. Meanwhile some dude just posted he got his neck broken by a poleaxe. I think injuries from melee are far under-reported in the SCA meanwhile CA is being held to excessive safety precautions which, in-turn, leads to decreased participation in the g...
William, there have been other incidents discussed on this board and the marshals forum in the past but I am not going to do all the research to find the documentation for it. We've been over it before and it has come out several times that incidents like those I mentioned have happened within the p...
