Re: Flame crap from founders thread

Actually I felt it was pretty valid that there was access to many forms of steel weaponry in the early days. The point is that there wasn't much interest in it. Like it or not it's true. Not a derail just not tolerant of bullshit even if it comes from a "founder" who I've had words with be...

Is that so? You seem to know little about me and you certainly have no clue what I may or may not know. It appears you are the one making absurd speculations.

If you don't want to derail threads don't post things like that.

Re: If you could ask the 'founders'?

Regarding the the un-availability of Proper blades (steel) in the early years.... Solingen, Toledo and others were making "Proper" Blades by the truck load...were they not? Sure Toledo produced Wall Hangers and just about every SCA fighter owned one but that's not all they make. Many blade...

Re: If you could ask the 'founders'?

Injuries changed the shape of our rattan weapons. Round stock and less shaped rattan resulted in less injuries. Ovals are still OK.

It does work well and Gideon is also correct, those who have that spark are going to be hooked in this manner. Those who don't won't join no matter what you do.

Re: If you could ask the 'founders'?

Safety should of course take presidence, but efforts to reduce any danger of unsafe conditions to reasonably acceptable levels, should be taken at all opportunites. Just because some people think something is dangerous, doesn't make it so. By such a standard everything is dangerous and getting out ...

For something I seem to ascribe too much importance to, you sure had some pretty solid reasons for rattan becoming the standard and staying that way for the SCA today. Thank you Henrik. Note from Mod: I accidentally included this post from the other topic. Oooops... my bad, and I don't know how to f...

Re: Recruitment Thread.

Are you only talking about recruiting for Combat or recruiting for the SCA in general? The principles are the same but the target audience is likely different. For almost all of them 'being their friend' is a strong influence on hooking and keeping people. That applies equally to fighters/fencers a...

Re: If you could ask the 'founders'?

Perhaps we should ask why rattan was what became the standard for our combat and why steel was expressly forbidden on our fields. This was determined by people in the earliest of days who were enthusiasts of steel weaponry and had been exposed to formal training with steel weaponry. I'm guessing the...

True. I fear when we are fighting it is normally "odd" folks that end up talking to them as they watch. I agree this is not great for bringing in new members. It is best that we introduce ourselves to those watching when we take a break. Show them our gear, explain to them what we are doin...

Re: If you could ask the 'founders'?

The tip is best for slashing, the blade is best for hacking. Of course a tip shot that snags and splits maille may not be deep enough to cause a substantial fight ending wound. A hack will cause some percussive damage but is very unlikely to cut through maille. If maille was crappy armor they wouldn...

No injuries, good. Was it the Tecafine stuff or another type? Manufacturer? We have people all over the SCA buying this stuff from many manufacturers trying to test it out.
