Re: Dr. Toby Capwell Lectures on Arms and Armor in So Cal
Thanks for that recap! For anyone interested, the Getty curator says the lecture will *probably* be available in audio form on line. They use Soundcloud to post their lectures and audio presentations. Go to Soundcloud.com, sign up, and search Getty (and "subscribe" to the Getty's postings).

Re: Dr. Toby Capwell Lectures on Arms and Armor in So Cal
Great question - I'm going to do my best to video his talk at Orange Coast College, and put it on YouTube for everyone to enjoy. (No charge.)
Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to do anything about recording the talks at the Getty or the San Diego Shakespeare Society.

Dr. Toby Capwell Lectures on Arms and Armor in So Cal
Hello fellow armor and history buffs, I wanted to let you all know that I’m coordinating a series of lectures by Dr. Toby Capwell (curator of arms and armor at the Wallace Collection in London) when he is the L.A. area in mid-October. If you are interested in such things (and who here isn't?) and ar...

Re: For Sale: Armstreet 14th century fauld
Anton - It is separate from your breastplate. A separate suspension/shoulder harness keeps it in place. You put it on before you put on your curiass. It would be perfect with a globose or Churburg style breastplate.

For Sale: Armstreet 14th century fauld
Greetings, I have a leather/brigantine fauld for sale - the "King's Guard" model from Armstreet. I received this a few months ago as a gift. Nothing at all wrong with it - but, unfortunately, it's just a little too big for me, and trying to do an exchange is more trouble (and shipping $) than it's w...

Re: WMA study group in the SCA
The SCA's combat rules are, by necessity, geared to make their armored combat safe for everyone - from the "twice a year" beer-drinking war fighter, to the "three times a week" serious athlete. WMA-style activities require A) control and B) trust - and there are an awful lot of S...

Issues and Solutions
This is a really enjoyable discussion ... One thing that I can see as an "issue" is that the Vitus system does (in a way) rob the fighter delivering a debilitating (limb) blow of the opportunity to demonstrate an act of courtesy/chivalry if that is his/her choice to do so - meaning that, i...

Vitus System - I like it!
Sir Vitus and others: This is an interesting system, and I'm quite glad to see this (among other) possible solutions being offered to the SCA's traditional (but entirely unrealistic) "knee fighting" convention. With regards to some of the criticism stated here - sure, this system isn't per...

Darkheart Gauntlets Delivered
An update on the custom gauntlets I commissioned from Darkheart: Last week Morgan promised the gauntlets would be done in a week, or he would refund my money. Darkheart: Still In Business!
Alan,
Thanks - you must have mentioned something to him, because I got a note today. I look forward to getting (and fighting with) those gauntlets.
Everyone else ... Darkheart is (clearly) still producing armor and (barring one little communication snafu) very good to deal with.
Guillaume
