more accurate? how can you suggest that earlier "pre-plate" displays are less accurate? im confused. regards logan Your Grace, I was more suggesting that actual armor was more accurate than hidden sport armor. I was leery of a plate as proof rule, since it would exclude 'pre-plate' eras, ...

Which is why I stated that I could take my opinion to an armor as worn engagement, Excellency, and away from the main melee of SCA.
That said, I still like restricting the effective target area of archery.

Re: I think I have a fix for CA...
If you get hit by an arrow, take it. It doesn't need to be as hard as other blows because it's never going to be. If we are going to be ok with using bows we must be willing to accept this. Agreed. If there are that many people that don't want to accept body blows from arrows that's fine too, make ...

But the small grind marks aren't along the length of the marks, like they would be with a thin wheel. Maybe if it was a small cylinder grinder on a dremel or flexshaft, it would make those marks.

Re: I think I have a fix for CA...
...I think we may be talking past one another, good Count. Yes, the current assumed armor standard is maille over a gambeson. Which works for calibrating melee blows (there are arguments to this, I'm aware, but that's not the focus here). At the moment, arrows defeat that armor standard. Every time ...

I would say hammering, with a cross-pein. The texture in all of the marks (on the close-up) is always perpendicular to the length of the mark, suggesting an ill-polished face to the hammer.

Re: I think I have a fix for CA...
I don't think it would have as much of an impact as you suggest and it's honestly just a rule devised to let people ignore blows. If we are going to make rules that selectively let people ignore blows that is additionally problematic and we should just not use the weapon if it comes down to that. T...

The only problem I see with "Plate is Proof" is the exclusion of most time periods before the mid-14th century. I thought I understood the wording of the rule to include lamellar, too, so even pre-14th century folks can feel included. Right you are, but I had in mind those who portray Cru...

Re: I think I have a fix for CA...
Respectfully, that doesn't actually go against my statement, Sir. True, as you have stated, the current ruleset is exactly that. But if we're talking about a "Plate is Proof" rule, specifically in reference to CA, then it doesn't diminish the current ruleset. It makes CA a feat of skill, a...

Is it really conflating when you are talking about one standard for melee weapons, and another for ranged weapons? After all, are there not shoulder and hips blows for great weapons? How confusing is it for a fighter to have this scenario? FffffTHUNK. "No good; on the breastplate." If it w...

By bend my brain, I mean looking at a 3-D object, and trying to flatten it out in my mind, and put it down on paper in a 2-D form. This is quite difficult, especially if you've not spent time developing your spatial skills. Working in the other direction, and building paper lames directly onto the s...

Dunno, I've got to agree with you, Patrick. Coming from a fencing background, civility and respect for your opponent was ingrained into us. Sword up and hilt to the chin, sword down and back with a slight bow, come on guard. I don't think I could bring myself to give any salute less than that to my ...

Hal would be the go-to guy for sabaton issues, but I patterned my lames with paper, directly over my turnshoes. I don't need to bend my brain to the flat paper, that way, but the fitted paper flattens out easily enough to show the correct shape.

You could get some stainless, fanless elbow cops from Cet at Rough from the Hammer for $28. Mild for $12. Since they're going to be hidden, he can just paint them, inside and out, to prevent rust.
