Re: A question about the approach to combat archery.

Sure they can return a blow, sir: either pick up a bow yourself, or order one of the archers under your command to shoot the enemy archer that's pestering you. ;) A simple solution that's been offered in every single CA thread on here.

Re: New guy looking for a full set of armour

Down here in the land of 100% humidity, you really should think stainless, unless you really have the authenticity bug. I started transitioning my kit from stainless to spring steel, and man am I paying for it in maintenance. Or, go best of both worlds, and try for spring stainless? That narrows do...

Re: Combat boots or bust.

Heavy armour, ill-fitting armour, bad footwork, too much traction, and a too-wide stance are all probable suspects, zachos.

ETA: Not saying those are your issues, Vitus! Just that, in many cases, these are some of the most common reasons for injury to the ankles, knees, and legs.

Anybody else ever feel like they can take on any terrain in their wrestling shoes? I'm either just lucky, or wrestling shoes are miracle footwear. Re: The future of C&T

If it were to replace heavy fighting, meaning at the same force level as heavy fighting now, I think it would become incredibly expensive. As it stands now we dent 14 and 12 gauge helms imagine what steal weapons are going to do to armour. Instead of having a helm that has lasted over 20 years, you...

Re: Anti-Tilt tools

I've a few stakes with just angle iron along the top, and it does work better than if just a square stake were chucked into a vice. But I've found that even those can move, especially if you don't have a heavy-duty vice you can really crank tight, or you're using an offset stake. If you know you're ...

Re: review of 1/2 birch shields by Manus Mac

Do you have heater hose or some kind of trim around the edge of that aluminum shield? That likely adds a surprising amount of weight.

The rawhide will definitely do the same for the wooden shields. That said, ya just can't beat a good birch shield, covered in canvas and edged in rawhide. Love 'em.

Re: Combat boots or bust.

I do some off-trail running and what I hate about all the shoes/boots I've seen is: 1. How absurdly high my heel is off the ground (about 1" minimum). This makes it more likely to sprain. 2. How wide the heels are. Contrary to common thinking, a shoe heel wider than your own heel makes the sho...

I would hazard a guess, from earlier armets, that leather strips were rivited inside, to which the lining was then sewn.

With any style wire wheel use a full face shield and leather apron. You'll be happy you did. Even if you have prescription safety glasses ware the face shield and apron. Those wires come off and can do a lot off damage. Yup. I've had plenty of them embedded in my chest or arms like little poison da...

Its a bit like asking which material is the best to draw with, or whether a tablesaw is more efficient than a belt sander. The different hammers are different tools that achieve different effects, based on what you're trying to do. You wouldn't try to chisel chasework with a sledgehammer, or rough s...

No, he's talking about the two halves of the vambrace (lower cannon) and which piece nestles inside the other, historically.

Personally, I've always seen the upper/inner plate tucked inside the lower/outer one, as you've said.
