Thanks for this. I just showed it to several professors in the Art Department.
Like me, they were excited to see the quality and clarity of the images, coupled with the excellent zoom feature. We didn't have this level of slides in our art history classes.
Very exciting. :)

I realize this is a katana-shaped object, and that its a Cold Steel video, but these are some very pretty, very clean cuts in slow motion.

Its where I go for my copper, brass, and bronze sheet. Also, silver.

Just an example, you can get brass sheet 8 to 28ga., in 6"x6", 6"x12", 12"x"12", and 12"x24" plates.

Bronze, you can get 12-22ga.

What material do you use, and what tools do you use to shape them?

Well, I wouldn't think it'd be something like leather, what with the stop rib. There's also a medial crease up the center plate, and what looks to be hinges on the side, just behind his forearm in the photo.

Not especially. The straight hang will either angle forward on the draw, or you grab the scabbard with your off-hand, tilting it for the draw. And the scabbard hung at a tilt is already in a position for an easy draw.

For a great crash course in all things awesome, concerning making armor, go here and watch Eric Dube's work.

http://www.youtube.com/user/SgtViktor

This particular video, of him building some gauntlets, shows a decent example of peening rivets, around 4:40.

The ones we have made can easily fit an SCA scabbard. I've adjusted mine to fit a rebated reenactment blade, my period style sharp, and a wooden waster at different times and its held them all fine. I'm not sure I'd personally risk your awesome work in rattan combat, but you can take a length of PV...

Re: Thank you.

Thanks, I'm going to do butted since I don't have tools to do rivets. I've been told to get about 12 to 16g wire for chain mail, is that correct? The average that most people stick to is 14g swg, with the ring size 5/16" on the inner diameter. This is a decent balance of the strength to weight...

Re: Riveted and Butted

Could you define those two terms please. I've heard of riveting, and understand it's related to attaching pieces of armor, but I don't know what it is exactly, and butted too. Butted mail is where the two ends of the ring are placed close together, but are not attached in any way. The ring relies o...
