Well, I got my gab from Dever Fabrics, but here ya go: 1. Very little fulling. One side just fuzzed a bit, obscuring the weave. 2. The smooth side fulled, the diagonal weaving stayed the same. I wore the smooth side out. 3. As the gab does not full like a coat or suiting (heavy) wool does, you'll ne...

mattmaus, ymmv. I've got one of those teal-green ones, and its lasted me a couple years of light use, now, through thick and thin leathers, 20-24g. high carbon spring steel, and 16-14g. mild steel.

I've got the hand and a half. They definitely hit hard, easily, and can land dead. Balance on the hand and a half is 9 inches from the guard, which is about 5 inches further than I'd like it to be. A heavier pommel would fix that. Other than that, I like the thing. Revival sells the Cold Steel versi...

Canvas-weight linen, and canvas-weight silk work very nicely.

Linen for warmer weather, silk for cooler.

Yes, I noticed their pattern looks to be for his tailored coat above his tomb. If I made a surcoat with a roughly hourglass cut that laced up the sides, do you think that could achieve the look? Or would it be more complex? (BTW, what is this type of "surcoat" called?) Their pattern is fo...

A more positive grip that is less likely to slip out of your hand in a crucial moment, like a polished wooden one might.

Edit: Also, the weight of the wire ekes back the balance point a tiny bit more into the hand, making for a livlier handling.

It would certainly have more mass than a heater, which should transfer the shock of a blow less. And depending on how you strap it, you could have most of the weight on you shoulder with a guige strap, or like a strapped heater, or strap it where your arm is down by your side...all three were used.

Its hanging closed, i.e., in the same direction the body of a hauberk would hang.

That chausse is just very closely fitted, with no extra mail, so the weave looks very open.

Smaller, flattened, riveted rings would look much denser.
