Re: Strapping wingless elbow cops

Howdy! There will be a leather strap and buckle across the inside crook of your elbow. Additionally, it is a common (though not universal) practice to have a pair of holes, about 1" apart, centered at the top edge of the cop. Through this, a cord (called a "point") is tied to your arming garment und...

Oh dang, I missed MJ up-thread. Very spiff, indeed! Lots of detail in that...from the appliquéd decorations, nice buckles on your garters, lovely side-buttoned cloak, and plaque belt.

If you follow the good lady's advice, it greatly simplifies construction. It also makes the two garments much more flexible, since you can leave one off. http://www.larsdatter.com/hoods.htm http://www.larsdatter.com/cloaks.htm Worth noting: depending on which part of the 14th you are asking about, w...

None as bad as these, but I think the worst shot I took wasn't even during a bout. At at practice a few years back, I volunteered to be the training dummy so another fellow could give half-speed examples to newbies on how to properly use a polearm against a sword and board opponent. In one of his ex...

A little further this evening. I decided I was okay with the placement of the second arc on the left thumb, so I went ahead and punched and filed it. This time, I was much happier with the orientation of the thumb. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8779/17131107969_8924b298ab.jpg https://farm8.staticfl...

As to the image size, there's a file limit for loading attachments directly, and an 800pixel width maximum for dropping images into posts. Easiest way to deal with that is upload the images to something like flickr or picasa and then just drop the url link here.

Thanks Hal! :) Oh, forgot to mention. Probably about 20 minutes of work tonight moving the articulation point. I also marked the second arc on the thumb's trunk for the other rivet. Snagged a few minutes this evening before the dark and the rain coaxed me back inside. I took the opportunity to document a fix to a problem I've been avoiding. I had initially punched the articulation rivet for the left thumb too far out to the side, as you can see here. https://farm9.staticflickr....

Resurrection! I had a spare day at the house, following a tornado that tore through our area last night, and I was sick of these partially-finished gauntlets staring accusingly at me on my desk. Following a bit of clean-up around the property, and a couple tuckloads to the dump, I got into the shop...

Towards the turn of the century, you're in luck! It started to be used, though instead of front and center, it's off to the outside face, about 45 degrees from the center line. Post pin in the greaves, round hole in the demi-greave, and the standard strap going around the back. And the metal strap ...

What part of the 14th century? First quarter? Last? That will help inform the answer as to using a pin through the demi-greave. As to the greave fit, it absolutely needs to fit snugly over the top of your calf. There are a few threads on the subject, but the basic premise is the top portion, up to t...
