I dont remember if this tip is for bone or horn (might apply to either) but IIRC I was told to drill a 'pilot hole' in the marrow. Then if you heat up the tang, it should push right thru the center of marrow part of the bone, then when it cools it will be a very tight fit. Take that for what its wor...

There is no EXTANT evidence to support the use of Pre Viking Age or Viking Age leather helms (or helms with fill plates of leather for that matter.)
