Or hunt down the following "The Oriental Mounts from Birka's Garrison: An expression of the warrior rank and status" By Charlotte Hedenstierna-Jonson and Lena Holmquist Olausson It goes into great detail on the pouches and all the fitting. I was able to get it via ILL for another AA denizen

IIRC, I has some european friends of mine track this fellow down and take a look at one of them
IIRC they are cast and very heavy

I am trying to help a newb get his own shield

He asked me today (before ordering) what the difference was between 6061 T6 and premium 7075 T6 aluminum.

I dont have an answer, but I bet someone here does.

Better than alum but only slightly:(
I also worry that moisture will cause the contact paper to peel
They sell 1/8th inch sheets of oak veneer (for cabinets) but I fear that it will crack when I rivet on the boss and other decorative bits
