Re: Leather covered shins / greaves

Thomas, it is indeed a good idea...If I was planning on making a handful of these things, I would consider it. That said, I realized that carefully peeling the neoprene foam out, I had a near perfect template to use for making more. And as a bonus, I have a couple decent pieces of neoprene to reuse....

Re: Leather covered shins / greaves

Your method requires a piece of wood enough to be carved into the correct form, and the skill to do so. I've got pretty big legs, so I'd have to find a 10 inch post or stump to carve, which seems like alot of work to me. Actually, the prep of the shin guards has gone quick. Idecided to use boiling w...

And here we are, two months later and...I got them. The plan is to epoxy fill the vent holes, abrade away the Brine logo at the ankle and the molded ridges. Next, I get to buy a new toy..a Heat Gun! I need to relax the form a bit, and make a little bit mot lip to the ankle. Then abrade the entire su...

What would be the thickness of the $20 squared off mild steel Musashi tsuba? Price for a 5.5 inch version?
One could go over it with files and sandpaper, polish it up or paint it and have one spiffy sword!

Hers next to my eight year old White Mountain kettle, and here is my wife all smiles in her new lid. She insisted we get it padded last night. She's going to add either a leather or cloth aventail, and I am going to make her up a chinstrap, and she is ready to rock. She can finally retire that nasty...

Review: White Mountain Armoury Kettle Helm

Sadly, White Mountain Armoury is no longer doing custom work, but my wife managed to order what could be one of the last Standard Design Kettle Helms. She received it yesterday. It is gorgeous. 5's across the board. This lines on this helm are so clean and crisp, the shapes so eye-catching. the gril...

I'll try not to butcher the blazon while I do this... The basis for my device started with the devices of my Mother's and Father's families. My Mom's side, De Garmo is registered as a field gules, three swords argent, point down, and a chief or. My father's side, at least the Gunnarson brnach, there...

Re: NOT ARMOR- modern 'cut' fitted mail motorcycle jacket?

I think it would have a similar shrapnel effect: the outer thin textile/leather lay it abradded away, then the road surface gets to chew on the rings. the rings break and get flung around, or embedded and pushed through the inner lining, and into you. Honestly, I think properly crafted textile/leath...

Re: NOT ARMOR- modern 'cut' fitted mail motorcycle jacket?

Sure it could be done. I'd imagine much like a huabergon is constructed, but with a lot less rings in the body barrel, and the barrel split bottom to neck....I bet a person could even sew in an appropriate zipper. Expansions behind the shoulders for movement, longer sleeves. It would take quite a wh...

I keep looking at it and thinking how it gives the armour a lighter look somehow. Though, I wonder how it would look if you ran another cord of blue, or even a contrasting color through the openings...solidifying the border, in a way....or leavbe it the way it is because it is indeed quite spiffy! I figured you'd be just as conservative with your leather as I am. If it is over 4 sq inches, or has an interesting shape, it goes in my scrap bin. I have a 'thing' for read leather...and In fact have a project I am starting soon, so I'll PM you once I figure out what I might need. Much appreciated!...

I keep looking at this and thinking "I want the scrap leather from this..." LOL...Wanna sell any scraps? That is a super sweet coat of plates with some really nice leather. Setup with a pair of any of the shoulder cops you have, and that's one righteous harness.

Fantastic work.

7.5 foot padded polarms are not legal in Northshield? Not that mine is padded, or that I get to use it very often, but it would be a bummer if I couldn't make it look more like a weapon than a big stick.

I used approximately 3000 out of a 5000 ring bag form Icefalcon, and of that number, I encounters approximately 100 unusable rings. I cannot comment on the HE Mild Steel ones, but I did user thier brass rings (about 20% unusable in that package). The half bags form Icefalcon seem a little different,...

If you are inclined to a little DIY, get his kit and you can do some pretty cool things with them. I've taken greatsword and polearm shots to them, admitedly with some sting, but no lasting pain. they work great.
