How often would you need to re-apply?

Short answer: I don't know.

I DO know that I've been abusing the Hel out of this thing and so far it's held up like a champ.

Similar, but if you could put a curve in the backspike I would love you forever I could do that. As for the contrasting color, I quite frankly forgot about that on this one- it's my "proof of concept" axe. As much as I hate it, tape might be the answer on this particular piece (unless it ...

Frankly, I hope so. I'm tired of duct tape. :). If people see these and like 'em' they'll start either buyng them from us or making them themselves. Either way, the Society benefits. (And hopefully I make a buck along the way).

For what it's worth, I just got back from my local Baron's place (Einar Blakklar, Barony of Brendoken, Midrealm). He played with the axe for a bit and told me that he'd have no problems passing it (he's a marshal too).

SCA francisca- UPDATE

Here's my newest experiment- a francisca style axe made from a foam core with a leather shell, on a stained rattan haft. What makes this different is that there is no visible tape. I used a product called Plasti-dip to coat the outside of the head. I think it gives it a very clean, cool look. So far...

If that's the one that was on display at Pennsic then it handles like an absolute wet dream. Easily the best handling SCA weapon I've ever held.

Single handed axe

Here's my latest contribution to the SCA weapon world- a 33" from butt to blade tip single handed axe. The head is a foam core with a leather shell, and is secured to the stained rattan haft with a combination of sewing and glue. The striking edge is padded with foam, so it's ready to take on t...

Locktite 2 part epoxy (as well as sewing the head to the haft) to secure the head and shoe goo to laminate the layers.

I'm planning an experiment with Plasti-dip very soon...

SCA-legal Great Axe

...and it really is prettygood, too! Here's the latest in my line of SCA legal weapons, a Great axe. It measures 48 inches from blade tip to butt. I've figured the costs involved, plus the labor involved, and I could do these for $70 plus shipping. That's a foam core and leather shell head with thrusting tip, padded and ready to go, and a factory straightened stained rattan haft.

Thanks!

SCA legal Pollaxe for sale

Here's a Pollaxe, all rip roarin' and ready to go for you Mafioso types. The haft is rattan, and the head is a foam core with a leather shell (as is the rondel). The head and langets are attached to the haft with epoxy. As is, the weapon is 5' 7" long without a butt spike. I left the spike off ...

SCA-legal war hammer AUCTION

Here's an SCA-legal war hammer I made. The haft is stained rattan, and the head is made from an inner core of foam sadwiched in a leather outer shell. The striking surfaces are padded. The head is secured to the haft with epoxy, as are the langets. http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/87/l_fd...
