For what it's worth, I just got back from my local Baron's place (Einar Blakklar, Barony of Brendoken, Midrealm). He played with the axe for a bit and told me that he'd have no problems passing it (he's a marshal too).

Here's my newest experiment- a francisca style axe made from a foam core with a leather shell, on a stained rattan haft. What makes this different is that there is no visible tape. Locktite 2 part epoxy (as well as sewing the head to the haft) to secure the head and shoe goo to laminate the layers.
