Re: Two Durable Natural or Synthetic Quarterstaves
Use rattan, shave it into the shape you want, stain, and mount head. That is what we ended up using in Poland. Everything else broke, rattan lasted the distance. Wow! I expected that "flex" to be a serious issue, but your suggestion is definately worth considering! I was planning on...

Re: Two Durable Natural or Synthetic Quarterstaves
Their 1 1/8" 2 layer staff sounds perfect, but I'd like it a tad thicker so the sides can be shaved down. And yes, I bet they'd do the work. I'll cal them on Tuesday.

Two Durable Natural or Synthetic Quarterstaves
Hi I'm looking to purchase two natural, syntethic or combination quarterstaves with a defined edge. These would be used to mount two seperate types of halberd heads from Ice Falcon for BotN practice against my armoured pell. The quarterstaves must have a defined edge, as well as being durable enough...

Sir Guy, If a more worthy fighter takes my place, that is good. I will still attend the practices and 2014 is looking good. 2013 is not. But if I do not make the team for 2014, I will just attend the practices and have fun with that. Win-win IMO. The Aspirant list is growing quickly! http://usaknigh...

I have both Knut's and Ice Falcon's stainless mail. Both work great and look great. Ice Falcon is faster to get armour. 101_1246.JPG 101_1241.JPG I got my Knut aventail second hand. Nick's Helm with Master Knutt's Welded Stainless Drape.JPG Both look right, both are very functional. I admit that Ice...

Re: Interested Armour Archivers in BotN?
From looking at the Team USA website, the guidance is: 1. Follow directions. 2. Don’t ask to be added if you are not serious. Give serious thought about the task at hand. 3. Get on Facebook. 4. Read and follow the combat rules 5. Contact Jaye Travis Brooks Sr. or Andre Sinou 6. Decide upon which gro...

Re: Interested Armour Archivers in BotN?
New Website http://usaknights.org/ The 20-30 lb limit might be difficult. I think some of the effective fighters wore more than that. But I'm upgrading my suit now with spring stainless, thinner stainless (sabatons) and 301 stainless. But even then I doubt I can get to 30 lbs considering the mail. ...

Oh, I know I want to. No doubt on that. But logic must rule my emotions or else I'll end up in an odd situation. It's happened before. :( I'll practice hard, make sure that armourers have food for their families, fight with a local group and make sure I'm ready for 2014. I expect there will be a goo...

Re: Making a Calf Casts
$169 does sound like a bargin. I was looking at $169 for a pair or even one. Not even the best armouring artist can do good work without a good representation of the target. So if I saved $100 or $200 on the casting, I would have lost a lot more by setting up a good armourer "for failure" as it were...

I could wait until I get to USUHS and purchase a plaster cast from the university (maybe). But that might have some ethics issues so I'll stick with the homemade plaster cast idea.

Dear Mr. Miaullis, Thank you for your email, which was passed onto me, regarding the probable English Pollaxe of the second half of the 15th century (VII.1542), which is in our collections here at the Royal Armouries. At one time this particular example was traditionally ...

Gavin, I don't think that "Full Metal Jousting" was the original intent, which I think was "Full Metal Jousting, but in fully documented and authentic historic armor and costumes", so there might be a rift between the authenticity crowd and the 'modern sport' crowd within the next few years if it c...
