Why do you ask, Logan? Josh, I think Duke Logan is interested in how to fight in full armour, and asked for your assistance at Pennsic. It might be fair to test both theories by switching armours. If Duke Logan (dressed in Josh's armour) can best Josh while Josh is dressed in Duke Logan's armour, w...

I've read about half-way through, and waiting for a chance to pick it up again. It shows the SCA in all her glory, beauty marks and warts shown to all. It's a matter of opinion which ones are the beauty marks and which ones are the warts. Rather entertaining, and worth the money. Are you still fight...

Josh, You are coming across as bitter. I fight in quite a bit of armour, and frankly I would stink if I was wearing or not. I like the full-body exercise full armour gives me, and my wife (and others) have said I look nice. If others succeed due to other reasons, it's their reasons. Fight your fight...

Sir Vitus, I will respond privately, so as not to further hijack the thread. Aaron.. try stepping in to the shot and pivoting. You can cut off the angle of attack and simultaneously deliver a shot with the motion. Malcolm Maybe that's the problem I have with shots to my back. I've seen video where ...

Hmmm, never complained about butt whacks before,or targeting unarmoured areas, but its bugged me for 20 years. Must be something in the air...........Otto I don't mind people THROWING the butt wraps, I mind it when I can't ever seem to block them (without exposing my entire head and upper torso). -...

My calibration has evolved as well. I've viewed videos of my fighting over the last six months, and I know I threw (and connected) with shots I thought were good, and after many months analysis, I've come to understand that they were real rather light and I have to understand my body mechanics more....

Re: Pinching myself
This was a long time dream of mine to own a Gothic Harness. Ken made this for me. One of two things are going to have to happen since I now have this harness. 1. I am going to have to learn how to jog in plate or 2. I am going to have become a hell of lot better fighter than I am now. Or change my ...

One of the unspoke implications here is that if a basket-hilt is armor you can't strike it (or grab it). If it is part of the weapon then you can strike it (it doesn't mean anything, but it can be hit). The current and the immediately previous SEM have stated that you cannot deliberately target a b...

Butt-wraps from Peerage. Almost every fighting Peer I've met has landed a wrap shot to my left buttocks. Frankly, most everyone goes pretty easy on me I think, and I'm armoured cap-a-pie with at least one location covered with three layers of 16 guage stainless. I think everyone has just been nice w...

Has anyone read Blood Red Roses: The Archaeology of a mass g
Good Morrow,
Has anyone read Blood Red Roses: The Archaeology of a mass grave from the Battle of Towton AD 1461, by Anthea Boylston?
I'd love to see a review before I buy it.

I can't see why there are so many people that are "against" what aemma do. The SCA isn't against the WMA and LH groups. We just object when we're compared negatively against them again, and again, and again. Trust me, I would love to grapple and fight like the WMA groups (if one was in Japan...mayb...

One, we have too many events. I disagree totally (but I'm in Korea right now). We have too few LOCAL events. Small events advertized with a good long fight (maybe most blows thrown in one hour) and a 1 hour commute (or less) might work. I've enjoyed fighting for 8-10 hours (on and off) with the loc...

I think were are arguing historical fencing vs. armourered fighting. This is apples and oranges, and not remotely the same. One is unarmoured, looking for victory based (mostly) on unarmoured conditions. The other is armoured, looking for victory based on sport conditions and a set armour standard. ...

Where could I get a good working reproduction (not fancy, just solid) of a late period (1400-1500 AD) sword that could stand up to that test? How much would I be looking at? Kind of late period, one handed, or a longsword? In any event, I would recommend something by Angus Trim or Albion Arms. You ...

It seems to me that if you really wind up and hit with what the SCA would of course call 'excessive force' you could penetrate a period helm with a two handed weapon. Depending on the make of the helm, maybe. But frankly, why would you aim for the helmet, possibly the most armoured and protected ar...
