Your options are: 1. The Chef Option: Save up more and get what you want. 2. The Amature Armourer Option : Get some sheet steel, a hammer, a stump (plenty in Maine). Cut your steel, debur your steel, and then start banging on your steel until it fits right. And, go to the library and check out a lot...

This would be my first time wearing besages, so I'm up for lots of advice. But, I know they are period-correct for my time (1460 AD, England) when they came back into fashion. I'm looking at how to keep my shoulders from sliding back, and protect against those armpit / shoulder joint shots the guys ...

How big do you want 'em, and how much fluting? I could spend a late night or two in the shop next week.... I think I'm looking for something 5-8 inches in diameter, with possibly 4-8 flutes. If everyone could put up the availablity (most important) and cost (less important) it would be great. -Aaron

WANTED: Fluted Besages in Stainless (fluted)
Howdy, I'm looking for in-stock (or close to it) besages in stainless. My very beautiful pauldrons keep riding back, and I'm exposed in front (a bit). Besages would help offset the weight of the fluted dragon wings in the back, and bring the pauldron forward a bit. Any suggestions? Thank you, Aaron

Yorii Hojo Festival 2005 - A re-enactment / full contact
Howdy, While I can't participate in this event, it looks GREAT! m Check out the photos! SEM would have to have CPR on the spot! The protection is just goggles, and they're firing arrows tipped with cotton balls, and fighting with lightly padded boffers! AND there is a river crossing and beachhead in...

How does the groove show, after it's taped? I'd be mostly concerned that it will weaken the blade. Yes, it shows. I made sure it shows so that the Marshalls can look at it, and know beyond doubt that it's not cored, or ready to be cored. If I covered up the fuller, it would look like I had it prepe...

Can you put a "fuller" into a SCA sword?
Howdy, Today I shaved down a 2 inch thick peice of rattan to 1.25 inches, and then cut a groove (like a fuller on a sword) down the center, on each side, not cutting the blade in two. The sword felt obviously lighter, swung very well (even whistled a little) and so far hits fine. I'm waiting for the...

Does anybody over there wear any metal body armour? Helms are the only parts that I think are required to have metal, and for some cultures coverd by our broad frame, it isn't even period-correct. Yes, I'm in 80 pounds of stainless, cap-a-pied with sabatons, but it's up to the fighter themselves. I...

All our local Knights show up to practice, and teach extensively almost to the detriment of their fighting and outside occupation. Self-sacrifice is their watchword here. We're got usually 1-4 fighters show up, in addition to our two knights, who show up more than anyone (unless they're out of the c...

Good Morrow My Good Friends, On many days, I go to my wonderful fight practice listening to "Kasmir" by Robert Plant and "No Leaf Clover" by Metalica...and some ZZ Top. All work as "mood music" for the fight...but while all those composers are old, none are more than 500 years old. Could you suggest...

Tarquin, how is having Archers fire in volley style un-period? i agree that there are probably too many archers in some battles, having one archer for every five combattants would be quite rediculous, but i also believe that having only one or two arvhers ou there acting as snipers makes this into ...

No we can't "Both could exist simultanously" Neither want to. Some do, and can. How about we kill two birds with one stone. The integrity of the armor should be based on its historical accuracy. If armor looks like a$$, it can be assumed it is hastily assembled peasant armor, constructed from sticks, mud and poorly tanned animal skins......therefore inferior. The more historic...

The system of combat in the SCA does not allow for one to call another's blows. To that end, it is impossible for someone to be a cheater without another making judgement and assumption about that person's motives. With these things being true, it is impossible for this conversation to occur and be...
