"Halfswording is legal in which Kingdoms? " NONE "Why is or isn't it legal? What are the reasons or rational behind the decisions?" Half-swording is an experimental technique being reviewed by the SEM. At this point, the various kingdoms are (or are not) testing to provide data to the SEM. "Why isn...

Can you post copies (and links please!) of Samurai Armour LH
Howdy, Can you please post copies (and links please!) of Samurai Armour Living History? I know there is a event north of Tokyo that we’ll be at, and I’ll get video of the event if somebody wants it. Uesugi Matsuri is one of several festivals in Japan which celebrates historic samurai h...

If you have a more specific time frame, that would really help! In Caid, the Barony of Nordwache hosts the Treasure Chest War on the weekend of April 22nd in Fresno - about 125 mi, if memory serves. It's a small war, but a lot of fun. I'm sure there must be a West Kingdom event that will serve, but...

[SCA] War/Melee in Summer near Los Alos, CA?
Howdy, My children, wife and I will be taking some vacation time during the summer to my ancestral home(s) in Los Altos, California. Does anyone know of a good one-two day event within 100 miles of Los Altos, CA…that has a Grand Melee or even…dare I ask…a SCA War? If worse comes to...

Aaron, I agree totally with what you were saying, but... They DID offer him a full refund, so, what gives? Even after they replied nicely (even if they were stretching it on a couple of details) he continued to nag them and then made a thread about how "terrible" they were. They had already told hi...

I'm a numby. I honestly don't know how hard someone hits me. I've accepted very, very light blows and was told to increase my calibration. Then I had bruises on my hindquarters, but it didn't feel like a good blow at the time. The bruise I saw in the morning said otherwise. I'm toning down my calibr...

...if anything I see more harassment from the ugly crowd towards the nice armor crowd about "not being competitive"... When I was in the East it was almost a matra. Out here in Japan, Avalon plays "Armour as Worn" and counted blows, and armour is encouraged. I like it. I fear the culture shock when...

Thank you Everyone! I'm taking basically all your advice. 1. I'm putting padding in my shorts (four elbow pads). 2. I'm working on blocking the shots, and focusing on protecting my unarmoured buttocks, and let my armoured head mostly fend for itself. 3. I've ordered flauds and tassets from a truely ...

I'd love to find an american armorer who makes a living armoring and makes helmets that look this good and sells them for $75. I don't think they exist. Duke Alaric, They do exist, but like an unstable isotope, they're so short lived that they burn out and disappear before you notice. I've seen exc...

Tonlet Working on flauds and tassets right now...! I have an astounding team of armourers working on that. I'd love to fight in a tonlet. But, I'm in the SCA, and we're sometimes a bit odd about armour. How do I block the shots, in the SCA? I have this urge next time I fight a peer to rest my sword...

What is SCA combat trying to recreate?
Howdy, What is SCA combat trying to recreate? Honestly. I'm in the SCA and love it. I thought I could answer the question when I was younger.... But, after looking at all the discussions, and reading some more books...I really don't have an answer when people ask. Help! -Aaron PS: I expect no answer...

Bascot armor as worn standard... I know many Dukes who wear next to no armor who would leave such a tournament without a nick. If your fighting dictates that you need full plate, then wear it. I am sure those with skill will find your armpits and the insides of your elbows and the inside of your th...

My wife may be able to get a hold of some nearly-full-sized patterns if you wish. You may want to cut, harden and shape the leather and let the client do the lacing. In fact, that might be a GREAT sideline... If you had the patterns, you could cut, drill, shape and harden the leather, and sell the "...
