Effingham, Thanks for the website, it rocks. I just got rather lost in it... This is completely my fault may I add! Just like Brian Price's great book, it's incredibly detialed and everything that anyone could ever want (AND FREE TO BOOT!!), done in such a way that there is no confusion even with th...

The ones in your pictures are particularly nice ones. I was impressed too. Who in particular would I talk to, in Japan, about making samuri-looking armour (SCA legal...)? Given this opprotunity and generous offer of advice and help, I took her up on her offer quickly. It seemed she knew more than I...

Got on yahoo!!! Yahoo!! Here is the link, and I've set it to public: m The basic piece is shown, and it's paper. But it doesn't look like paper from the brown side, and it doesn't feel like paper...and after it's laminated it certainly doesn't look like paper. I'll post the lady's website tomorrow. ...

Effingham, I've now seen the armour in question, and compared it to the Samuri armour in Odaku castle, and it is comparable (I didn't see any glaring differences...or for that matter differences). Please note, my eye is untrained and my optimism is boundless. I could not photograph the armour in the...

The Sensei says: Jinbaori was worn by only the leader. It was a "leader's vest" made out of silk, and very ornate. It was not worn by lesser ranks. The shikoro didn't get in the way. To draw the yumi, pull the yumi back from over the head, start reallly pulling just below the helmet, with the arrow ...

Effingham, Sorry. I've seen the stuff. Do not use those patterns for real armour. That is abomination. Why? It showed up in National Geographic, and I'm guessing that they know their stuff better than I do.... If it passes the Japanesse re-enactor standards at the actual castles...it sounds like it'...

Correction: We're going to Odawara Castle (Kanagawa-ken) in western Kanagawa. It's southeast of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji, and northwest of Tokyo. Here is a web-site for someone's previous visit: m The first Odawara castle was built around 1200 AD. Since then, it had been destroyed and rebuilt several ...

Thanks for the advice! My wife is hooking up with a re-enactor group that makes "Samuri" armour out of hardened paper. We're planning on taking the paper when we're done and making a pattern for steel armour. Our instructor says that the large pauldrons were used as shields to ward off arrows, so th...

Try m For some reason I can’t get a good link for the interceptor body armor, but look at the middle picture. Basically, it’s a Coat of Plates (really). So, what would you add to a modern Coat of Plates? I was thinking of hanging a Kevlar drape from the helmet to shield from sunburn as...

1. Go to the library and find out what nationality, time-period and style of armour you wish to make. This may take years… The Armour from the Battle of Wisby is a good review reference to look at. 2. Ask everyone's opinion (here, Living History, SCA, boffer weapon fighters, local museums, etc...

Has anyone made a SCA legal pole-axe?
Good Morning,
Has anyone made a SCA legal pole-axe?
I'm looking for something like http://www.armor.com/2000/catalog/item010.html , but legal for SCA combat.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Aaron

Please do not steal. My wife and children are on the road right now, and it would annoy me to no end that somebody stole a street sign...and the resulting accident killed them. Re: legs
100% chance of dying when you are on your knees...I like those odds! Maybe I could even get a kill with those. hehe Trust me, it's 100%. You could be fighting in a sallet, on BACKWARDS (eyeslot in BACK), and wouldn't have any problem to get a good clean hit in on my head before I got you. I'm THAT ...

I'm really bad fighting from my knees. If I have to fight from my knees, I've got almost a 100% chance of taking the next shot right on top of the helm. I've decided not to fight from my knees because: 1. It didn't exist during the War of the Roses period that I'm making a bad attempt at doing. 2. I...
