You encourage them to continue to raise the bar, and ask them for help with your armour ideas... As a newbie, I would prefer TOO much armour to too little. Too much armour can be expensive, but I can take pieces off if I want. Too little armour can get me injured, and then I can't take the field aga...

check out the my harness thread above for one good example of a very well done repro suit for starters. Otto, Could you please post a link, or web-site to your armour? There is only one link to an Italian export harness on the "my harness" thread, and I am looking for options on the shoulders. A ni...

Does anyone have an example of a "War of the Roses"
Good Afternoon Everyone, Does anyone have an example of a "War of the Roses" era suit of armour? So far I have: Pointed Sabatons Greaves (back needs work…) Steel legs Floating (steel) elbows Steel vambraces Steel rebraces And I'm working on a two-piece back and breastplate with an armourer. I ...

How well do the weapons hold up after repeated use? When the weapons fractures (everything eventually does...), does it "fold" or "shard" when it breaks. Do you have to worry about the flying shards? What does the weapon look like from the edge and the flat? Is it easy to tell the difference? Is the...

Well, you pretty much eliminate all personas pre 800. Why? There were examples portraits, statues, renditions of human form all the way back to the cave paintings. Now I would be opposed to somebody basing their garb off of cave paintings (while the really COULD be French…. ), but there were ...

We'd have to carry photo-id for our STUFF ?!? Yep. One picture of a portrait or statue or armour of the time should cost you maybe a dollar. This shouldn't be too expensive or too hard to do. It would also prove that an "attempt" has been made. There will be no authentic portraits of elves, vampire...

To enforce the rule, participants will wear garb conforming to a color photo of a portrait or painting of the time portrayed carried by the participant. On the field...

Drat. I was hoping that it was accurate. You're right -- Braveheart isn't a good start... When I looked at the photos in the USA Today, the armour looked really rather good, AND I knew that the language would be pretty close, as opposed to regular movies about the time (where everyone speaks English...

I used to work with a full contact jousting company (New Riders of the Golden Age). Nice guys but not terribly good at Armor repair. Why do you make armour?
Good Morning, This question has been plaguing me for awhile…please forgive my rudeness… Why do armourers make armour? [color=green][b]Their clients are usually penny-pinching, nit-picky clock watchers… I have yet to meet an armourer that is in really good health… Quite a few armourers I’ve...

You may want to try Darvis' floating elbow pattern. It doesn't require welding, and it looks like it is just bending, no dishing.

Flonzy- if it makes you feel better, you can pretend that I'm really a 16th century noble that is completely loopy and think I am a Roman Centurian. I figure it's not much of a stretch. is this a weight or bulk issue? This is mostly a "bulk" issue. I can usually put 140 pounds (one 70 pound duffle bag, and a garmet bag for those snazzy presentations) on the plane, but the size requirements would give me trouble. I'm going to go grab my legs, arms and gauntlets this weekend and see...

m From Alchemy Armoury, a goret would cost $45. My gauntlets, vambraces and elbows fit inside each other, and the legs I have from Ice Falcon Armoury are pretty portable, and they tie onto a weight belt that I could add plastic plates too for kidney protection. Some shin gaurds just in case of the "...

Please suggest an airline portable, SCA heavy armour system?
Howdy Everyone, Please suggest an easily-portable-on-the-airline, SCA heavy fighting armour and weapons system. Hidden would be fine. Howdy, I had an idea, but I’m swamped in classes and I don’t have time to think about it…and I know you do. Would it be possible to make a SCA-heavy legal musketeer outfit? Would it fit easily in an Army Duffle bag (so I can fly with it easily)? What would you use (considering that it all woul...

Advantage: Light, easily worked. Disadvantage: Dents easier than 16 gauge... Use the 18 gauge to make everything but the helm and goret. I would prefer a suit of 18 guage, with the helm are goret combo as 14 guage. If you look at drawings of tournaments you will regularly see armour littering the gr...

Jehan,
A Knight-Squire relationship would be an example of Patronage...but what about just experienced SCAer (not necessarily a fighter) helping out a younger, poorer fighter?
