Partonage would also nullify the "I'm too poor for period-correct armour" comment.

With five or six patrons contributing a very modest sum, a fighter could go out there nearly 100% period correct....

Maybe fighters need to run fund-raisers or ask for Patrons...

I think that sounds like a pretty good idea, but me being a student you can probably tell why OK, if a Patron offered a suit for you, what would you do in return? Would you fight in the style / time period that they suggest? Would you let your persona be dictated to you, like an actor? Would you fi...

Patronage

Howdy Everyone, I just wanted to pass an idea on: Patronage Could older, experienced, and financially secure SCA Elder Statesmen (and women) who may be physically incapable (or unwilling) to take the field become the Patrons of the younger, poorer, idealistic fighters? On a one-to-one basis (or even...

My old Great Helm weighed 14 pounds, and I only knew I got a shot to the head by the sound (DEEP gong sound). It was OK, but I'm making new armour in stainless that should be a little lighter. My objective in SCA combat is: 1. Show up to work on Monday healthy and unbruised. 2. Enjoy some excellent ...

I just feel that quarter should be granted for those not as fortunate as others, for the ones who can't afford to get on the field with $600.00+ harnessess. I am sure that they feel bad enough when they admire anothers garb and then are mocked because just cant meet the standard at that time. I oft...

You're sort of the Ninja / Santa Claus / Robin Hood legend of An Tir...the armour who ghosts in, deposits armour and rides away through the pine trees. I've sent you photos of my gauntlets (modified Andy Ward). If my wife can find the pattern...

Sven, There are two items that the hobby-armourer can't easily make themselves, and therefore are always in demand: 1. Guantlets. 2. Helms. You could start on making Andy Ward style gauntlets now, and I seriously doubt you could keep them in stock. The guantlet you have on the web-site is rather fan...

Actually he is wearing a doublet, hosen, and open cote/gown.
But essentially yes, that was the style for the beginning part of the 16th century.

Henry VII wore a huge bathrobe for years?

Good Morning,

I'm researching 1500 AD English garb, and ALL the paintings I've found of Henry VII show him esentially wearing an ornate bathrobe, leggings, t-tunic and a hat with an upturned brim.

Is this about right?

It's just weird...

Garb for 1500 AD London?

If its so effective then why do I not see it in period? The suit I'm copying has a spike mounted on the elbow! m Marshalls have told me that: 1. It's ineffective (even if used in period) and, 2. It's illegal (in the SCA) The elbows are pointed on, so I may make two spiked elbows later. One with a r...
