Re: Concerning blow calling through faulds
I'd suggest metal for the TING. Yes, the flauds will work, but they will protect you which means the shot will feel really, really light (if felt). The sound is important.

Re: Concerning blow calling through faulds
Get the flauds so they make a distinct "TING!" sound. Then you'll know. Mine were like a high-pitched gong.

Re: ACL/BotN Armour and Realigning Expectations with Realit
I'd put ACL at about 7,000 a year, with no out of country tourneys. Might have overshot it, but I'm feeling like I probably didn't (I buy way too much crap). I'll have to wait till I go back and get my bachelors degree. That was about my estimate too. I couldn't spare the time, and then looking at ...

Re: Issues with Anshelm order
Luthur, I understand that armourers are grossly underpaid. At no time does that justify running away with people's money while attempting to claim the high ground. IMO all SCA/BotN armourers are underpaid. To make it a living wage, they would have to charge 2 to 10 times as much as they do now. Cust...

Re: ISO: Helms that are fairly inexspensive
Invest in helms the same way you'd invest in your brains. Afterall, that helm protects your brains. That doesn't mean you buy a cast-iron cooking pot with eyeholes for $4K, but do some research and invest in your brains.

Re: Replacement for the Toyota Emblem on my Sienna
Neat idea, but doesn't fit the "Made by an Archiver" motif I'm looking for. And Transformers are all over the place, and it's a mini-van that carts around three messy kids. So it's not something that a Transformer would ever consider being. It's just WAY too humble. Maybe someone can flute the Armou...

Replacement for the Toyota Emblem on my Sienna
Hi, Yesterday something fell off a vehicle and bounced a lot (I didn't see where it started) but our mini-van was boxed in on the Baltimore highway (695?) and something metal the size of a paint can hit the car square in the grill, right on the Toyota symbol, knocking it off. Dodging into one of the...

Pad your estimates. ALL of the estimates. Pad the cost estimate by 50%. Pad the time estimate by 50%. Pad the pain estimate by 50% (assume you bleed three pints instead of the standard two). Pad the delivery estimate by at LEAST 50% (ship Priority mail, and then tell the customer it will be 2-3 week...

Ah, once at Outlands War Practice I brought two coconuts. And a very good knight with an excellent sense of humor allowed me to follow him around banging the coconuts together as he pranced through the ranks... I enjoyed that he had a sense of humor and just fell right into the skit so easily. We bo...

Re: Crown Tournament Formats and Rules
Although there are some really good fencers in the SCA, within 1-2 years of Rapier Crowns taking place, the same guys (Brannos, Michael, Lucan, Cuan, etc etc etc) would be at the top of the field and winning those Crowns as well. St. G- The same thing could be said if it were an A&S crown tournamen...

Re: Crown Tournament Formats and Rules
I enjoyed the one Crown Tournament I fought in. West Crown by far had the best format I've ever seen. Two bouts (or so) and then a GRAND MELEE for all those who are authorized fighters, fighting in Crown or not. Then two bouts, and repeat. I used this format for the Far West Baronial Tournament, and...

Building a "shin" pell
Hi,
The target I'm looking for is the pollaxe sweep to the shins, hafting the shins and then hooking back to pull the leg out from someone. Can someone suggest a pell design (other than "squire")?
With thanks,
-Aaron

Re: How did BotN Nationals go?
Thank you. That was an excellent writeup and a fantastic read. I must admit, the injury rate does give me pause. If I get as injured as some did, (a) work would ban me from fighting or (b) I would be let go...and that's far worse. I could wait until I retire, but I don't think age would make me less...

Yep... Wade has it 100%. The second a SCA fighter in any type of fighting drops to his knees, you lose new folks. It looks fucking stupid. You can't deny that. I've been to too many demos were a fighter will drop to his knees, and people who were EXTREMELY interested will just walk away. It doesn't...
