Re: Making a Calf Casts

The storm knocked out the power and Rick and I opted not to do the casts last night. The idea of having a cast on my leg, and Maureen trying to cut it off in the dark while our toddler runs amuck...just sounded like a bad sitcom plot and a possible chance to do self-aid for severe bleeding.

Re: Making a Calf Casts

Rick and I made casts of my arms and now Gruber has them to make arms for me. Tonight we make calfs of my sabatons, calves and knees to send to another good armourer to make shaped greaves in spring stainless. The next week I might be able to get a cast of my head, neck and shoulders done to send to...

Come on, no bids so far? This is a wonderful sallet for someone who doesn't have a Dr. Frankenstein's Monster's head (like me).

Re: Mild steel Sallet FS!

Oh, please. Please, send me the pattern. I will e-mail you a good e-mail address. The yahoo account is having issues.

BTW, how do you put it on? I must say it looks great, but I couldn't figure out how to get my head in there with the bevor in place.

With thanks,

Re: Mild steel Sallet FS!

Oh, that is a beautiful sallet. And it fits my time period very well too. But it's too small for my huge head. :( Could I send photos of this amazing sallet to an armourer I've already contracted to make me a sallet JUST like that, but out of stainless (12 ga), please? Please? With thanks, -Aaron

It also looks like I have to look for "Salet" and "Salade" when looking for a "Sallet" from the War of the Roses timeframe.

Re: Did Sallets have "Breath Holes"?

These Osprey drawings do not seem to feature breath holes: http://www.rustybodkins.com/2011/07/archers-sallet-by-norton-armouries.html http://www.richardiii.net/towton.htm And most of the English sallets look like they have a solid back instead of a plate drape: http://www.wars-of-the-roses.com/cont...

Did Sallets have "Breath Holes"?

Hi,

Is there any documentation on War of the Roses (say Battle of Towton timeframe) having breath holes?

I haven't seen any documentation on that yet.

With thanks,

Re: Finger injuries at BotN

I've got a pair of Ice Falcon enclosed thumb tip clamshells. I'll be sending them out to increase the cuff to a more historical (and protective) length, and get a plate in or extend the front a bit so my fingertips are not exposed as easily. Once or twice people have landed shots on my fingertips in...

Whoops! Good catch! We've moved to Ft. Meade, MD now.

Yeah, I'm a native Californian too, and spent the first 18 years of my life in the shadow of Stanford.

Maureen got to fence today

Hi, We had a WONDERFUL day today. I watched the kids (mostly), the kids watched Helena (mostly) and I took video of Maureen fencing. The group here in Atlantia got her kitted up quite quickly and quite nicely, and she was off onto the fencing field in minutes!! :D Wonderful people here! And...there ...

Finger injuries at BotN

Hi, Recently I heard there were quite a few finger injuries among the Polish team. Were there finger injuries in Team USA? I work with my fingers a lot, and would like them well protected. Understanding how the injuries occured, armour worn, etc...will help with the retrofit of some excellent gauntl...

Olaf, there is room for you on the team IMO. Andre and I disagree on how I think the BotN teammembers function, but IMO we have three types of fighters at BotN...and the terms are fun: 1. Bricks . A brick is there to have people hit them, accept damage without being damaged, and smash anything withi...

Thanks Hal! I like giving good armourers good money for good products, as you well know. ;)

Re: Sabatons finished.

I ran in full armour with the sabatons today, and what I learned is...the rest of the kit has to be upgraded to match the sabatons! EVERYTHING felt way too heavy now. My old sabatons were 4 lbs. These are 1.6 lbs (total), which is a 60% weight reduction. If I can get the rest of the kit (except helm...

Positive Review of Viking Leathercrafts

Hi, He repaired a pair of old shoes (7 years old, at least) and told me that he was concerned with what I was asking him to do. Sometimes the customer is NOT right (as I was NOT right in this case IMO) and the artist had the moral courage to tell a paying customer "No." That takes courage, and I sal...

Start with the clothes that go under the armour. Make sure the clothes are right.

Then start with the feet and work your way up.

I'm looking for sports goggles that are not easily seen through my armet visor. So far I haven't found them. When I wear my sports goggles the cameramen LOVE taking pictures of how awful it looks.
