Re: Finger Gauntlets.

I know several folks who have a pair of Leoric1958's gaunts, myself included. I've taken quite a few axe and spear hits to the fingers and hands and barely felt anything. Also, the price is pretty much unbeatable.

Re: Sigh.Who makes "cute helms"

I think by cute, means something she finds appealing, nice lines, shiny, etc...
so on that note..
could add some copper or brass accents = cute helm

I'm not in the market myself, but for anyone else.

I've seen Lazariths' work. This guy makes some great looking, sturdy helms, and you would be hard pressed to find a better price for the same quality anywhere.

Being fairly new to the SCA (1 year next week), I can say getting on the combat field can be done fairly cheap. My first "kit" costed around $120, and could have been cheaper, though I splurged on a couple things. Some good places to look: Thrift Stores etc.. : you can find elbows, knees, ...

Go with the loaner armor till you decide what period / persona you want to be. If you want armor to wear around while not neccesarily fighting (though you can) purchase some chainmail, you can get round butted for fairly cheap, it looks great, and many armorys have it ready to ship. Then after you f...

If you go strictly by this picture: http://usna.edu/Users/history/abels/hh3 ... istics.JPG

I would say it is leather edging, notice the mail seen through the neck hole, if it was a lining, that whole area would have been colored or shaded in, that level of detail "inside" the mail would suggest it's lining.

Hawkes Leather Review

Bought these leather half gauntlets from Hawke's Leather on ebay. The Good: Fought in them quite a few times now, including at GW. Great gaunts. very comfortable fit and great protection, taken a couple shots to the hands and didn't feel anything, also they look great, gotten a few good compliments....

thanks for the input, It wouldn't be for normal, or melee use, I wear more minimal armor for that. It would be used for demos, or when looks are more important than actual winning.

how does butted maille hold up in SCA combat

Would like to have a mail shirt, and butted is pretty much all my budget can stand, so a question.

How does butted maille hold up in SCA heavy combat, and how hard is it to repair/ maintain?

Thanks in advance.

If you need on the field and can't find a good kidney belt at a reasonable price in your time limit... since its going to be hidden, you can always go to wal-mart or a sporting goods store, buy a weight belt ($15 - $20), cut a couple squares from a 5gl plastic bucket, and rapid rivet them to the bel...
