I've done it with maille. Used the self cleaning cycle and sprayed it down with WD 40. Turned out nice.

Naw, we had at least 3 others I saw walk off the field like that.

I heard that Duke Valharic actually had the arrow touch his eyeball, but I can't confirm that rumor.

I don't know if baronial level awards can be registered or not, but that last one, the black and yellow, looks almost identical to the "Sable Blade" which is the fighting award for the barony of Black Diamond here in Atlantia.

I cannot see how striking an armoured man with the blade while holding it in a halfsword grip would be able to wound him. An unarmoured man, yes A chunk of rattan on a generic SCA fighter perhaps. But a man clad in maille, doubt it. Now a halfsword thrust on the other hand..... I could see halfsword...

It would depend. If I had an 8 foot halberd and you had a shortsword then a leg shot isn't a big issue. At least not if you are on the throwing end of it.

If you like it, then use it. It is an SCA version of a weapon appropriate to your persona. It's not like you are trying for a sport advantage or anything.

If the veterans think it is hampering your skill then enough practice should make up the difference (eventually).

I fought with a gambeson under my lamellar for a while. I dumped it when I made my kaftan. So far I've used my leather and brass lamellar with no padding (except the shoulders) with no ill effect as far as bruises go.
