He PMed me too. He is in a Barony next door to me.

Beastman, I hope you don't mind me telling them.

The helmet has already been disasembled prior to any pictures being taken. Thus, no pics.

I'll be there in my new rig for the melee (that is if my ride can get out of bed before noon on a Saturday).

I'll post some pics of me when I can.

UlrichvR, that may be the spirit of the Atlantian law, but it is not the actuall wording as I understand it. A quick summary of the law would be that all blatantly mundane parts of your kit must be concealed (with few exceptions). This is not the same as saying your kit must have a period appearance...

I just want to clarify something.

For the SCA style melee, all authorized combatants are allowed regardless of the time period of their armour. Is this correct?

Last GW during pick-ups I had a phone in a small pouch I keep on my belt. I had a non-SCA person coming to the event and I couldn't miss the call. I went to check my phone later and it had a crease in it. I missed someone's shot. Uric My buddy Aethelwulf (occasional poster) absolutely destroyed a b...

Anyone who chooses to wear a scabbard, spare weapon, or pouch in combat should have themselves calibrated on that spot. It is the only responsible thing to do. If they have difficulty recognizing a good shot in that location then they should take any blow that lands there. Cloaks and long sleeves I ...

We got a request one time for a local religious school for a demo.

They specifically wanted us to tell the children all about castles, armour, and knights.

But they didn't want us to mention anything about battles or war.

I used a very large wood screw, about the size of a lag bolt. Pre drilled the hole and put water in it. Coated the screw with some gorilla glue and put it in place.

attaching aventail to early helm

At work, no time to use the search function.

I’m looking for good pics on attaching an aventail to SCA helmets. Preferably spangenhelms and conicals. Close ups would be a plus.

Thanks

Sorry, thrusties on one handed (and most 2 handed) axes are dumb. The didn't really thrust with them in period, so why do it now? I figure the entire axe would have been used as a weapon. Every bit of it. But, SCA regulations prevent me from smashing someone in the face with the butt end unless I p...

There are a ton of fighters out there wearing plastic lammellar. I could see this having a market if it holds up ok.

I would prefer steel myself, so I have no intention of getting any plastic maille, but I could see a market depending on price and durability.

hrolf threadjacking for a second to second this: random barnyard animals do not good models of human skulls make. For example: even a yearling lamb's skull is remarkably thick. Yup, cows can have horns too. Depending on the breed. However, I wouldn't discount a rhino because the horn is made from hair. That is pretty standard. If I were to discount rhino horn it would be because of the lack of a bone core. As far as I can recall the simplest definition of a true horn consi...

We should have gotten together when I was visiting my folks in Florida over Christmas.

I could have traded my unblackened maille for your blackened.

Of course the cold blue is probably easier, but I'd bet you'd spend as much on bluing as you did on the byrnie. Exactly, it isn't a big deal for the helmet. One small bottle lasts a while and I can spread it on with a dauber. But I figure I would have to submerge the maille and I don't want to buy ...

I’m sure that I’m probably beating a dead horse here. But, we are conducting interviews today and I don’t have time to use the search feature. I need to know a good way to blacken my byrnie. I’ve heard that one way is to use a gas torch to heat it up and then spray with WD-40. But that sound...

Your injury sounds worse than mine. I tore a tendon or ligament (could not afford a doctor so I'm not sure which) behind my knee years ago. It still bugs me on occasion if I don't wear a brace. I just use a decent quality brace from a sporting goods store. Not the el cheapo, but not uber expensive e...

I used to watch the old show every week. I loved it. But last night it just seemed that there was an amazing display of bad sportsmanship and showboating.

I'm going to watch some more, and hope that it was just them being a little over eager for their first episode. But I was disapointed.
