I don't wear my byrnie in battles because it is too dang heavy to walk back and forth from res points or run across the field in.

I do wear it in tourney because it looks good and there are plenty of chances to rest between bouts.

Lowrider, Years ago, back when the archive was still blue and yellow this forum was known as "SCA Fighters Forum" or "SCA Heavy Combat" or something like that. One of the others would know exactly. Anyway, a bunch of people said "Hey! We fight in armour too! How about changing the forum name." And s...

Wow, lots of good names on there for people I would like to see on the throne.

I would like to see Corby take it.

Unfortunatly I won't be able to attend. I'll be working at a Boy Scout camp in Blackstone only a short distance away. I may pop in that evening to see who won.

I wear a regular steel gauntlet under my sheild boss. It's heavy, but I like to switch weapons a lot and I don't want to have to take gear off to do it.

Currently looking for lighter gauntlets.

Can't we just ask the guy who wrote the rule? But, for all I know it may have been written by someone who didn't know a motorcycle helmet from a baseball cap. We could just ask the pennsic Marshal In Charge. "Hey, is assumed for the troops a cap with no sides, or a helmet with sides?" As far as I am...

Doesn't matter. Within an SCA context being a squire is not a rank of any sort that I am aware of. One can be a squire without having an AoA. However, if a fighter is a squire then he/she has usually been around and active for a while and would probably have an award or two by then. I think I have y...

At least you got to fight. I was unarmed through the whole thing. Building a bridge while under artillery fire I understand. Building a bridge with archers shooting at you I can see happening. But building a bridge while a knight is trying to poke you in the face with a spear...I don't see it happen...

Don't forget the Plate and Maille tourney.

Too bad Baron Miles won't be at Pennsic. He stands about 7 feet in his armour last time I saw him. That would be an interesting bout to watch.

A two handed sword cannot be gripped halfway up its length. A pole weapon can.

Anyway that project got me interested in changes to rules that I might not know about and that is when I noticed there is no rule listed on blade length for pole weapons.

I was reading those earlier, no mention of the length of the weapon head.

I plan to make an unpadded pole for pennsic, and was thinking of modeling it after a flamberge with a long riccasso.

I don't think so. I've seen plackard patterns before and this is way too long and narrow.

It is made from very soft and subtle leather. I still think it is some sort of boot, but I don't know what the finished product should look like.

In Atlantia

Though we probably default to SCA minimum on that one, so if anyone can find a society ruling on it I would appreciate it.

what is this pattern?

I got some leather that a fencer was giving away last summer. Two pieces are shaped like the pattern in the link. One of them has the very tip sewn together. m Also included with these two pieces are two smaller trapazoids. I think they are supposed to be boots, but I am not certain. They could just...

What is the rule on the length of the blade on both a 6 foot and a 7.5 foot pole weapon?

Icefire I think you need to find some better sources. The ones you are popping up are third hand or perhaps 4th hand information. In other words a drawing of a picture of an effigy made by a man who had the armour described to him but did not see it himself. (just an example) I don't know how much a...

I wear one of those riveted byrnies from India under my lamellar. I don't use it for the battles where I will be running all over the place, but I do wear it for practice and for tournies.

I agree with Sir Corby on the gorget. A rigid gorget is a must.
