16gauge is about as heavy as my first breastplate, and that was considered a little heavy as it was

Keep in mind that in almost every spot you get hit your armour will be double thick when you wear a lamellar. In some spots it may be 4 layers thick depending on how you put it together.

I saw you there, nice helmet btw

I met another archiver while I was there, one I didn't know. We were discussing the metal lamellar he was wearing.

Speak up if you read this post, because I can't remember your name.

Its a tradeoff really.

The maille helps keep me cooler by allowing airflow between my gambeson and my lamellar.

On the other hand it adds a lot of extra weight.

Assessment (Atlantia)

I would have worn my maille if I had known someone was taking pictures.

I tried to make one of those kaftans, and decided that the resulting monstrosity should never see the light of day.

Is there anyplace that sells decent quality rus garb? Without having to sign over your right arm and your first born child.

make it out of aluminum perhaps
make some fancy elaborate cutouts
add a counterweight, it will increase the overall weight of the axe but may help anyway

According to minimum standards here in Atlantia the striking surface must be at least 18 inches long, have at least 1 inch of foam, and compress 1/2 inch.

model trebuchet

I have a scale model of a 15th century trebuchet that a friend gave me. Made of good oak no less. Anyway, I'm having some trouble finding the right length for the sling. I haven't put any weight in the basket yet so that may be a factor. Does anyone here know what the correct ratio for the length of...

Perhaps some day I will make a scale armour with actual polished cow horn---but it is likely to be rather costly! Cheers, Tim Only if you want really high maintenance armour. My laurel made some out of the leftover horn he had in his shop. He had so many of them crack and shatter after simple pract...

So why is it, that in a tourney where the actual point is to find your most courteous and chivalrous combatant, they would chose a format that rules out HALF of the entire list after 2 rounds? While some rhinoing butthole gets 20 or so opportunities to display how well he can cheat. Hypothetical sit...

I'm sure this has been discussed, but....

I can't log in regularly or for any length of time. I loose track of a lot of discussion.

Does anyone know the time and year for the following lamellar scales.

http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/ ... t=lamellar

I love the look of them, but I would prefer to stay roughly within my chosen timeframe.

Well, first one of any real note rather than tiny little local things little more than practices and demos. I went to "Defending the Gate" (Atlantia) this past weekend. Still armoured for SCA Heavy, sans helmet and gaunts.
Add in one 6 panel spangen with blued steel and brass bands and some flat black finger protection and you have my kit.

Six foot pole arm with but spike.

I like to use the spike a lot. Especially against great weapons. Weapon and shield I try to keep distance but I often end up close trying to spike them instead.
Two weapon I definately try to stay at my distance, or use a longer pole.
