I understand the damage to helm thing... but dont you pretty much have the same risk to your collarbone with any normal vom tag (over head strike) blow? The sword and the pommel would both be moving in an arc, so they would both be swung with about as much force. But the blade flexes and has a more...

I'm all for it if you have a padded "thrusting tip" style pommel. But this is a hobby for me, I spent 500 bucks on a custom made helmet and I don't want you to crunch it with a steel pommel. Especially when I fight guys who can dent it with rattan. Plus, since helmets have glancing surfaces I don't ...

oops, fighting is sometimes inside and sometimes outside. It depends on the weather during the tourney. The school the event is being held at is no longer in use (at least as a school) You should probably contact Colin, the autocrat, for that info. I'm not sure if he knows Malcolm, but he is an old ...

Not sure how the rule applies to Non Atlantians. I do remember Duke Logan (who wrote the law) saying that individual cases could be granted permission by the crown.

Can anyone "in the know" answer her question?

Make some munitions grade armour to start with. Chose a simple time period so your kit is reasonably coherent. While fighting in that, build your dream kit.

I don't see where you have much of a choice. I mean if you can't get out of the way the only option is to block the shot with your sword, otherwise you....oh, wait.... you guys are using shields too aren't you. Nevermind! Image

I've been pretty much in a state of semi retirement this year. I didn't go to many events but I would say short of Pennsic my favorite was Black Diamond's (Atlantia) Ice Castle.

Of course, I'm a bit biased on that. What a load off of my shoulders that event was.

See you at 12th night Bryce.

In wars I usually use my 7.5 footer.

One on one I tend to switch between my blade and butt spike a lot so a shorter (6 foot) is better for me. I have a 3.5 footer and a 5 that I haven't used enough to make a comment on.

Why would I want to get rid of any of my armour? I've been getting more heavily armoured as time goes, because armour is fun.

Shoulder armour of some sort is important for me, I rarely use a shield.

In Canada? Well that is a big place, I would suggest Truehearth.

Safe, effective, inexpensive, and resonably nice gear for loaner. Better than spun top anyway.

Buy the helm, elbows and knees. Then some thick leather for the other parts.

Oh, you might want to get two loaner swords and shields.

A friend of mine wants to get one. She saw the ones on the White Mountain Armoury site and loves them, but his site says not taking commissions.

Anyone out there taking commissions on them? She isn't in a hurry and willing to wait until after the holiday rush before placing an order.

I disagree, but only to an extent. I have taken thrusts through thick leather armour, over heavy maille (india rivited), over a gambeson and linen tunic. These thrusts were one handed with foam over a rattan club and were enough to put me on the ground heaving. A real sword, with a sharpened point h...

Personally I think a rapier blade through the hand would certainly have an affect, even if I were pumped on adrenaline.
