living history in the US

Are there any dark ages groups that do living history here in the US? specifically the east coast, since california or the midwest might as well be other countries as far as travel is concerned. I'd like to find something allong the lines of these guys http://www.reenactment.de/links.html or along t...

As far as I'm concerned, if it hit me hard enough then it is good. It doesn't matter if it bounced off my shield and the shield of three others then hit me. Its good. However, if it still landed with that much force after all that bouncing and skittering then someone needs to talk to you about your ...

I don't know a lot about Japanese weapons, but I was under the impression that a Tachi wasn't much longer than a normal katana, just more curved and hung differently, blade down. No-dachi=greatsword Katana=bastard sword or broadsword Wakasashi=shortsword Tanto= dagger Naginata=unpadded (or thinly pa...

Scales are attached to a backing, the backing has a straight edge. As long as the front overlaps enough, you will not have a gap in coverage. I used buckles, one end was attached to the backing underneath a scale, and the other end was attached to a backing at the edge where a scale would have gone ...

I think one of the problems crops up when everyone wants that unusuall piece. To use the car analogy, a group recreates the era those cars were in. One man out of those hundred has a sea foam green car. No problem. But if 75 of those hundred people had a sea foam green car, simply because they could...

I would suggesst looking at the ARMA website, or picking up a copy of Tolhoffer or Fiore and basing the fighting moves off of that.

Otherwise it would be like basing street fighting off of a boxing match.

Early 2 handed swords

I love fighting with greatswords, and hand and a half. But I hate the fact that they don't go with my current rig. (about to start another time period as well though) What kind of two handed sword like weapons would have been available to someone in 8th century Europe? Even through reasonable trade....
