Shrew stopped making them for sale a while back. She still makes them occasionally as favors for friends, but she doesn't really enjoy it and they never sell at the right price for the labor that goes into them.

modify a morion and peascod from india and then use puffy clothes to cover basic protective gear.

Buy the helmet a little too big so you can remove padding as he grows. When he outgrows it completely remove the modifications and he will have a nice display piece.

be careful of what you get off of ebay though. Especially the helmets. Many say SCA legal but are not legal for SCA combat.

not to mention that it is more difficult and expensive to make a standard SCA axe than an SCA sword. Unlike their period counterparts

I carve the rattan into a tang and fit it into the cast bronze handle on my pommel. the blade I do not carve unless I have ended up with a particularly large piece of rattan, but I usually reserve those for polearms

Nice helmet, but I'll bet it is one of the indian pieces and therefore probably not SCA combat legal.

I've never tried it, so someone else may have better answers. But my guess would be to have high armour and weapon standards, use dull, light steel only, and to pull your shots.

I think the theory works better than the practice here. Are you going to stand at inspection with a ruler and measure everything about that basket? Are you going to re-measure when they switch to a new sword? Would this not encourage people to swing at the hands? Now, I know that they swung at the h...

I wouldn't get it myself. Take a look at his other auctions and what he lists as SCA equipment. First off, he doesn't even know what kind of helm it is, though he gets the time period about right. 15 guage does meet the minimums, but I still would not use it for SCA. Did it list anything about the e...

If it is SCA then 16 guage is legal, but I wouldn't fight in anything less than 14.

The teardrop is not a historical design? Hmm, for some reason I always thought that it was. Regardless, I would much rather see a teardrop on the field than a spun top.

I would wear it with armour from the mid 1200s. That should be a nice look.
