Re: Crusader vs. Saracen Battle at Pennsic 2012

While it looks good, it is not accurate for Saracens. Most Saracens didnt have 4 panel helms. And around that timeframe the Kazaghand armour was more common. I am actually in the process redoing my chainmail hauburk to this type of armour. Its alot of work but I should be done by Pennsic. Would I b...

Proposed kit upgrades

For those of us without cameras, or who have not done the improvements yet. I'm dumping the ring on my belt and making myself a buckle. Its mostly finished. I still want to blacken my stainless byrnie to match the aventail on my helmet. I'm planning on getting some splinted greaves. Leaning towards ...

I'm not a knight, nor am I even 14th century. But I will support any tourney that focuses on historic kits. For what its worth (not much since its already been done), yes, you have my support.

I can't sleep in. I can never sleep in.

Afternoon fights mean I either sit in camp for hours waiting, or go and try to do something and exhaust myself before the battle or miss it completely.

You're taking over the crusader battle? Too cool.

Looks like I'll need to bring two suits to the field that day.

Glaukos, if you ever get your 300 battle I've got a greek suit in the works for it. :)

Grimr, that was completely unnecessary. Bryce is one of the most dedicated people I know and offered you no personal insult. Nor did he create the schedule and has been quite vocal about his own disappointment in it.

The 1:00pm start times are a bit odd, but I guess it makes for less "I missed the battle cause I was still drunk from last night" excuses. No, now you will get the "I missed the battle because I had to make a town run." or "I missed the battle because I lost track of time." or "I missed the battle ...

Last year they announced that the theme for this year will simply be "iconic weapons". Whatever weapon form was normal for your persona or your persona was known for.

That's all I know.

When I go camping to an event I make my own beef jerky and my own trail mix. The trail mix is a huge hit in my Pennsic camp. It has been dubbed "Vlad's Trail Mix of Awesomeness" Also, if you have a dehydrator (kind of a prerequisite for the jerky) you can slice bananas in half (long ways) and pop th...

I've always had a problem with gloves and gauntlets. Anything wide enough to fit, is way too long.

I've heard a lot of bad reviews for them. There are two ways to buy armour (imho). 1. Put your hands on the piece you want and try it on. If you are happy, buy it. 2. Buy from an armourer whose reputation is sterling and comes with many recommendations. I have followed these two rules for EVERY armo...

Counted blows are not allowed? How did that happen? WHY did it happen? If I recall correctly, counting blows thrown is not permitted. But, counting blows received is. Fighting to "submission" is not permitted, but counting to 1000 blows received is. And if someone happens to yield before that numbe...

Though a lot of SCA bascinets have flat, strait sides, most historic ones I have seen had a bit more shape to them. Unfortunatly, I know of no extant examples of a sugarloaf helm, only depictions of them. But, if we give the bottom the same shape as its relative, the great helm, you can see a differ...
