Re: Helm Auction--Sutton Hoo full-face heavy combat helm!

That is a nice helm, and a good price. But I wouldn't advertise it as a Sutton Hoo.
I think you are limiting your buying pool too much that way.

I remember that battle.

My camail had torn free from my helmet on the right just prior and was dangling a bit. I'm on the right in red with the green belt.

Look what I stumbled across. Its intended as costume armour.

Its simple, but is it correct?

Then I suggest that you may be looking for splinted legs with aluminum splints, or perhaps all aluminum. You can save weight on stainless or spring steel by using thinner metal for the same level of protection, but the cost is going to be much higher. You could use plastic, but plastic tends to be b...

Thanksgiving, 1994

I normally wore tan slacks when I fought. My mother wanted a picture and all I had with me was blue jeans.

For a first kit, I don't think its too bad.

People who consider a tent in a field in western PA in August surrounded by hordes of unwashed dorks* "home", I'd hate to see what their real homes look like. ;) For some of us, home isn't home either. I've seen pictures of the greaves going under a knee cop, but I have never seen them worn over a set of pants covering a set of knees.

I would also like to point out that there is a vast difference between a kit that is "ugly" and one that is simply not pretty, or is just plain.

Plain is fine. Lots of armour was plain. I like munitions grade.

If you have ugly armour because you are attempting to look like a soldier on a long campaign who hasn't been able to keep it up, then that ok by me. How big of a thigh does the XL go around?

That helmet does not make me think "Ancient Greece".

Despite its modern sportiness (reminds me of a sports car actually) I would say you are much better off going for 15th century Italy.
