I thought it was self evident as well.

Also, I'm sure they were wearing minimums. I just wonder if they were wearing shirts.

While I agree with the rule, I cannot help but think that they would not have gotten cut if they had been wearing armour for a game of armoured combat.

Welts are a bit different.

Suppose for a second a new boxer says, "Hey, I wanna kick this guy. He's completely open for a kick. Can I kick him?" Others respond, with a polite "no". The new boxer continues, "But in a real fight I would be kicking, and biting, and scratching. Why shouldn't I be able to ...

As long as you keep in contact with people things should work out fine.

BTW, your website says you are currently taking custom orders. You may want to change that.

Re: a crazy shield idea

But the rattan flexes, try comparing the shield to an oak dowel with iron reinforcement instead. I think shields would run into the same problem as flails do. One that acts remotely similar to the real thing is too dangerous. One that is safe to use is laughable. Wooden shields and metal shields wou...

You said you were getting an aventail. That's good.

Get more maille.

Dump the jeans and modern shirt.

Hide the hardened leather cuisses under something that looks gamboised, or simply get a pair of gamboised cuisses.

Hide the arm armour under the sleeves of your gambeson.

Re: a crazy shield idea

I suspect that such a shield would be so light that it would no longer behave like a shield should. So, you end up with a weapon in your off hand that doesn't strike a telling blow, but may surprise your opponent (once), doesn't have the range of a true off hand weapon, is fragile, and detracts from...

Several of your helmets are not listed on the SCA armour page, but do list SCA chinstrap and bar grills (not SCA specified) as options that can be added. Specifically I am looking at your collection of sallets. Does choosing the bar grill option make them SCA legal or is the grill for a different gr...

Re: Laminated Rattan vs Split Rattan polearm

So it seems to me that (and I don't have the exact measurements) a laminated weapon is legal as long as the laminated section is no longer than "X" inches long, no rigid adhesives are used, and the laminated section is not part of the striking surface. All other rules for 1 1/4 inch rattan...

Its not a proper repair, but if the hole is small I have found that using a bit of sinew to tie the hole shut is almost unnoticeable. Use dark sinew if your maille is blackened, and lighter colors if it is polished.

edited for brevity I think the basic gist of the thoughts however are fairly accurate, with the exception of limb severing. while tricky, there's plenty of evidence from norse sagas to 16th C fechtbucher that give indications this was a feat of note, but not one of remarkable prowess. So, its worth ...
