304 stainless roofing nails as arming nails?

I bought a 5 pound lot of stainless roofing nails off of ebay, and noticed after that they are listed as 304 stainless alloy. Realizing that theres several "304 stainless" alloys, has anyone used stainless roofing nails as rivets in armour recently? Hard/nightmarish to peen? or am I worrying too muc...

Re: Tool Theft in south california

Dammit, thats just cold. Sadly, theres a lot of theft of heavy equipment, of all things in rural areas of socal. And by that I mean actual earthmoving machinery like bulldozers and graders. There must be thieves that cruise looking for unguarded stuff out on back roads or something out here. (Unless...

Or maybe I can try to get a knife auction up on short notice.

Welcome to the archive, Blackfyre. Some things that may help, in future postings where you are looking for something. 1. List your size for anything that comes in multiple sizes. For helms, measure your head at the brow line. Its not a perfect measurement, as custom helms need more than that- But it...

I use a bench grinder mounted on a pedestal, and a variety of wheels for grinding and sanding. Flap wheels for medium to finishing work. Stone wheels for rough grinding jobs. For knife blades, I use a cratex wheel before I polish. I own an angle grinder. I can't remember ever using it. Its all in wh...

My collection of hammers and stakes, while not extensive, has been sufficient to make finished spalders, elbows, knees, breastplates and cuisses. As well as the parts for finger gauntlets. I do need a long reach hammer to peen rivets internally. I am also planning to experiment with externally peene...

Planning some helm work in the near future...Need some input

As stated, I am planning some helm work in the not too distant future. Mostly, I am looking to play with some patterns bought from Historical research press. At least one Von Prankh great helm, maybe a sugarloaf, and some bascinet action, based on the patterns are all on my to do list. So. Since the...

It sounds like a coated steel to me.

I go to Schorr metals in Anaheim, but thats a bit far from Northridge....

That far north is out of my patrol range, so I'm not sure what I'd suggest for other suppliers.

Re: Antler belt knife by Ironbadger- Auction

This is, by the way, the very last blade out of that antique steel with an antler grip.

I have nothing left from which to make another.
The last two knives will have walnut grips.

So unless I manage to get more old steel as nice as what I had....This is it, folks.

Sorry, I completely forgot about this while catching up knifework. First, a few things to mention- Its a training bayonet. The Japanese made these from unhardened, unsharpened mild steel. The guard is loose. This is fairly common for training bayonets, as they saw hard use. Training bayonets were re...

Re: FS: Star Wars Cosplay Costumes (More items added)

Something locals did here for clone trooper helmets in order to get them on and retain the small neck hole, was to cut a ring out on the bottom, and attach the cut section with rare earth magnets or velcro. This allowed them to be easily taken on and off, while retaining the rather tiny neck pinch. ...
