Stainless steel discs- 3 3/4"X1/8"

I went back and got a couple of the stainless steel discs the scrapyard has, and heres a photo and dimensions. About three and three quarters inches across. Almost exactly an eighth of an inch thick. According to the scrapyard scale, they weighed .4 of a pound each. Magnet test- Magnets do not stick...

Agreed.

The advised trick of cutting real thin strips of brass from the materials to be brazed for color matching is also excellent.

Well, yes. But they're cheap, and so long as they actually ship..That matters to someone who needs a helm to start. We've come along way though...Theres fewer and fewer spun tops and junk helms on the field every year. Its progress. -Badger- To be honest, the CNC pierce work on those helms are a MET...

Viking seax- relist for sale, not auction.

My buyer reluctantly had to cancel his bid on this a few weeks ago, so I am re-listing it at a lower price. So, its available for $150 plus shipping. Not an auction- first interested party to pony up cash via paypal takes it. I can make a sheath for a bit extra, but I don't want to make it beforehan...

Ashcraft-Baker?
Looks an awful lot like his work, and location is listed as Tucson.

Could that be an apprentice, trained by him?
(I know..Not likely. But tossing the idea out anyway.)

I use thin brass wire from the hobby store and Boraxo hand soap for flux.

Works fine.

No, but I have not been on the field in a war in 21 years. I finished the spalders this morning, and one of the arms is done. The other just needs assembly. -Badger- your first time? see if you can borrow what you need to get on the field or you will probably never make it timewise if time is short....

I've actually managed to dish one cop. I did not measure the size quite right, so its a bit large for the elbow set I was planning. I'll set it aside for now with its undished twin, and it'll become my light kit elbows. It wasn't as bad as the .090...And I am impressed with how tough it is now that ...

First off. Welcome to the archive. Its a great contact point, and a great place to start. I'm not so up on who i...

I don't know..... I already cut most of this crap, so I don't think I can turn much of it into other things. Yeah, this was due to getting an entire half sheet for scrap price. It was probably cheaper than an equal square footage of 16-18 gauge stainless steel at the time and place I got it. I decided to use it because I had it, and am short on time and cash to make a kit for a local war in a month or so. ...

Yeah it would....But I am hoping to avoid that if possible, since some marshals will bounce it as "not secure enough", because the bars can slide around a bit. Agreed. You can crease/flute the centerline of the splints with a dulled cold chisel and a hammer, using a pine 2X4 and some patience. Plastic from pickle barrels can also be shaped by dipping the small pieces in boiling water. Wear good gloves and dip using a needle nosed pliers.
