Re: 6061 T6 .090 aluminum vambrace splints auction

Auction is ended.

Wulfgar has the winning bid at $55 and shipping.

Thanks everyone who put in bids, and we'll see if I can ever manage to do more of these some day.
(When I have decent tools, so its not like pulling teeth! Argh!)

Medium sized seax auction. ENDED.

Up for auction is a medium sized seax of the broken back pattern. 7 and a quarter inches of blade, sharp, and walnut and brass furniture. Just about 12 inches exactly overall. Suitable for any persona of the 7th to 11th centuries, Anglo Saxon to Viking to Frankish or early Norman. I'll run this auct...

Re: LARGE sword hilted seax auction.

Lost my PO box address today due to lack of funds and the rent about doubling.
So payments will be taken by paypal until further notice.
(Using my home address for receiving mail until I get another box...And hoping I don't lose any letters or packages until I have secure receiving again.)

Please note- I lost my PO box today due to massive increases in rates, and my lack of money. So I'll be taking paypal payments until further notice. (I'll be getting another PO box at a closer post office station when I can manage it, and my forwarding is set for the home address for now.) But I just...

Aluminum vambrace splints- opinions?

I finished a set of these and have them up for auction now- http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=151104 What I want now is opinions on the pattern I came up with, and suggestions for the mounting hole pattern. These are 8 inches for the long ones, and 6 for the short. One and a...

6061 T6 .090 aluminum vambrace splints auction.... ENDED

Auction ended. PM incoming to Wulfgar. Finally got around to finishing these. This was an experiment. I got a hold of a scrap of 6061, T6 .090 thickness aircraft aluminum. It was just large enough to make a set of vambrace splints. These are 8 and 6 inches long per pair. 1 1/4 wide at the tops, 1 in...

Re: LARGE sword hilted seax auction.

Yes, I shortened the blade maybe an inch to get enough tang for a decent grip. :) I can't stand the short grips on all the import pieces....They just aren't made for big, ham-fisted western hands! I should also mention that I spent way too much time hand polishing that bevel to flatten it with a han...

Re: Scandinavian seax blade in progress- completed, with pic

Well, its a bit of an exercise in found parts.... :) I do have a pic of a Brit viking re-enactor with a seax with a brass 5 lobed pommel, so I decided to recycle the one I had. (Its a photobook of re-enactor camps and living history presentations...By Verhulsdonk, I think?) I wasn't sure how histori...

LARGE sword hilted seax auction/Ended.

Just completed tonight. This is a large, single edged, sword hilted seax in the Norse style. Blade is carbon steel, (A former chainsaw bar.) a bit under 15 inches long. Total overall length is almost exactly 21 inches. Brass furniture. Walnut grip. Peened tang. An edge is present, but not actually s...

Re: Scandinavian seax blade in progress- completed, with pic

And now finished. The blade is a bit under 15 inches long. I wound up using a brass 5 lobed pommel I had left over from a cheap sword. I cut it down a bit in size to be in proper proportion, and it has tiny scratches and dings here and there that I can't actually remove without taking off too much m...

Re: Bodice daggers? Small daggers? Interest?

Hm, not sure I want to make miniature knives again. But- If I decide to do so, I'll keep your request in mind. As for prices- Well, back when I was making these in the late 80s to early 90s, stuff ran from $25 to $100. The falchion and zweihander in the color photos were examples of my best work, an...

Okay- not the best pics, but these are all that I have from way back when. I should probably just make a bodice dagger prototype specifically for pics. -Badger- http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y103/ironbadger/random%20pics/miniatureswords.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y103/ironbadger/random%2...

Re: Bodice daggers? Small daggers? Interest?

sadly, I never got any good pics of most of what I did back then. All my bodice dagger work predates digital cameras, when the only way to do photos was with a film camera. I have some pics of my miniature swords and knives, which were completely different from my small using blades. (A friend took ...

Bodice daggers? Small daggers? Interest?

I used to make bodice daggers and very small knives for ladies, as well as concealment daggers for gentlemen a long time ago. I now have a supply of antique carbon steel suitable for making them again. (A drag saw blade at least 120 years old...It can't be anything but carbon steel.) Now I wonder if...

No idea what that is, sorry.

I used to make and sell knives about 20 or 25 years ago, and got out of it for a long time.
I did not go by Badger back in those days though.

Just remember that T shirts stretch..... :) Use one thats reasonably loose, and it should work fine. -Badger- I shall now go hang my head in shame...I have no idea how the T-shirt idea got past me...That is how my wife made the original patterns for her corsets. I really appreciate all the feedback....

No matter what its made from, armor needs an occasional cleaning.

satin or wirebrushed finishes tend to offer the easiest cleaning and the least maintanance.

To be honest- Most effigies, and quite a few period illuminations I have seen show that either men in period had pipestems for arms and legs....Or the artist was idealizing his client to flatter them.
