I had to release dibs on the beater sword.
Still getting the pigface though.

The difference in weight in one of these made up in 16 gauge mild, and 18 gauge stainless, should be a few ounces at best.
I would imagine it would be barely noticeable.

Re: Sabaton "tops"
What about something like a half slipper? A long-ish toe pocket with the plates riveted on the top leather, maybe with a strap around the ankle? Something like a series of leather loops running under the shoe might work too- sandal straps in reverse. Just brainstorming of course... But theres got to...

Re: Sabaton "tops"
That looks an awful lot to me like the plates were riveted to a leather backing, and maybe tied on over a shoe. That would explain the lack of mounting holes in the plates- the tie points would be on the now missing leather pieces. Just a guess..But if I were making something like this for my own us...

Review for Avitoria_vidua, Irregular linen trade.
Got my linen from Avitoria_vidua, and I couldn't be happier. :D I did a trade for a rondel dagger, and the linen was described as having those small stains- http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=146317 but honestly, I can't find any stains looking at it. Its a bit heavier weight...

Re: Helm "stiffeners?" Anybody have pictures? mattmaus????
Sure, you can add the "window" stiffeners.
I see no reason why not.
I wonder if diagonal strips would work better?
Say, 3/4 of an inch, a half inch apart?
It would take some experimentation.

Auction is ended- thanks for looking. Finally finished the double edged rondel....And when I was casting around for a grip, I found a few pieces of Oryx horn from my grandfather's taxidermy shop. Re: Anyone know whats up with Hanwei?
Well, I found on a quick search a mention that the Hanweis were banned in Trimaris due to an incident. The ban was lifted in September of 2011, and new inspection rules were instated. http://www.sca-rapier-news.com/2011/09/update-on-trimaris-ban-on-hanwei-blades.html That might be the incident I am ...

:D Glad to help. Re: Anyone know whats up with Hanwei?
Hmm...Last I heard, the Hanwei fencing dagger blades were very questionable due to a few snapping about halfway up, leaving a jagged end? (I think they had been suspended from use at some point in SCA fencing because of this?) I bought an Alchem dagger blade through James the Just for that reason. I...

A rondel dagger made as my half of a trade with Avitoria_vidua. Redheart grip, 4130 steel rondels, carbon steel blade from a chainsaw bar. Very sharp edge. Re: Constructing a Wisby type 1 coat of plates
Around a half inch is my usual standard for overlapping COP or brig plates.
I tend to assume about that much for my own designs- but it can be more like 3/4 to a full inch for say, a fabric cover that has any stretch.
Its all in the pattern, really.

That would do it, yes. My problem has been finding a suitable metal container with a secure lid to store ashes in- but using a glass jar has actually worked to anneal knife tangs. I really need something bigger- but the pickle jar has worked, so I've been lazy. -Badger- sounds like I need a bag of c...

Over the many years I have made knives, this is the only one I can recall ever managing to break. I tend towards beefy, robust tangs and solid construction. So this one came as a rude shock. I may try to salvage it at some point- but the blade would be really tiny... Like, maybe two and a half inche...

Well, I had this one in progress a while back..And then I snapped the tang off while trying to straighten it too aggressively. In my own defense- it was made from way too thick a stock in the first place- 3/16th inch. But it was a leftover from the old miniature knife days, and it was already bevele...

I do love the Holbein, I will admit. Classic lines and a beautiful overall look. If I ever do revisit my 15th century swiss mercenary persona, it'll be what I make for my own personal gear. :) Baselards are really work intensive, since I can't weld the tang up to make the wider hilted style. I've se...
