Re: Making samurai armor....
Yes. I went over it really late last night, but did not find the more definitive answers I was looking for. Well, I suppose I can just make the Do straight sided and experiment from there. -Badger- sengokudaimyo.com is the first and only answer you need. this was the late Effingham-sensei's page.

Making samurai armor....
So. I have a bunch of 12 gauge aircraft aluminum scrap left over after a project and want to make it into something that I will probably sell. Its tough and durable, but not as hard as the T6 I had before. After dishing though, it rings like a bell and smaller parts are so tough I can't bend them wi...

Re: New sword hilted dagger for auction
I'm still working on how to make leather covered grips that will last. I don't trust glue by itself...But stitching the side is really not easy, either. I know theres some folks that want leather covered grips. But until I manage a construction that I am happy with and trust to last, I'm still exper...

Re: Is there any desire for miniature knives these days?
Hm, okay. If thats the case, do you prefer a modern styled sledge head, or the older "A" shaped hammer head? Back in the day, I made them as small sledge/blacksmith hammers. Since those days, I have found many images of the ancient pendant hammers. (Which are frankly of every imaginable shape...And ...

Never heard of them. Got a link for the curious? :) -Badger- Anyone know anything about this group? Their stuff seems slightly higher end than typical Indian stuff, and about the same price. Re: Is there any desire for miniature knives these days?
My old price range was around $35 for basic, to something like $150 or so for miniatures made with real gems, silver and ivory and such. I'd be looking to keep the prices to the $35 to $50 range for now. Theres also questions about minis made to wear as jewelry- I always used carbon steel back in th...

Probably not possible, I'm afraid.
Working in a scale that small is really painful because you get friction burned a LOT.

Hm, might not be able to make them that small. The black and white image above is close to full size. The original is an 8 1/2X11 inch photocopy. Closer to scale for a 12 inch GI joe figure. -Badger- I think if you made them in such a way that a Lego minifig could hold them, you could make buttloads...

Is there any desire for miniature knives these days?
Way back in the day, I used to make miniature knives and swords. There was quite a collector's market in the late 80s and early 90s. I stopped making them in the mid 90s because the market dried up. (Well, the custom knife collecting world sort of imploded in general about that time...) But now I am...

Hey, I used to make miniatures, back in the day.
God, I made hundreds of them....
Haven't really thought of doing it again.
That one looks very nice- made from a nail? (I forget what the ones with the double ring on them are called.)

Re: Breast & Back Plate Cheaper than a Jack of Plate?
It should also be mentioned that you can use thin fender washers of around 1 1/2 inch to 2 inch to make a jack of plate. They come galvanized, so rust wouldn't be an issue. I've seen one made that way- The shape of the plates wasn't visible through the canvas cover, but the tailoring on the garment ...

Re: WTB Norman scale shirt or kit
Definitely modern artwork. The inking style gives it away. To me, it looks like late 70s forward, black and white commercial comics/illustration. The school/style I studied originally. The helmet is definitely eastern/Rus. Adding something like scale or lamellar over maille seems more Rus to me- But...

Thinking about making some eastern style armor for sale
I've been thinking about making some eastern style armor for a while. Since I don't do eastern personas, I'd be making it for sale. I'm just feeling a creative urge and decided I would follow it. This leads to some questions. What style? Well, I'm thinking something like a Turkish Krug, a Russian or...

Another update. The guard and pommel are now slotted, fitted, and ready to shape. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y103/ironbadger/in%20progress/jjj5_zpshfqy17of.jpg As they are steel, and a bit thick, this may take a little time. Sorry it took a few days to reply, Hrolfr. I have not been able to get back to the shop for a good week, and just catching up now. Update- The blade is now finished and ready to be sharpened. The choil will be cut after edges are laid down. The finish was made with 3M green scrubby pads. Re: A bowie in progress.
The sequence varies, depending on the blade. In this case, I went to the carbide stones immediately after the stone wheel, and before any flap sanding. The final finish is to be satin, and rough enough that it can be maintained easily without re-polishing. So I skipped a step or two that I would hav...

And the other side. I use the stones in a single direction- back to front, along the length of the blade. Its a bit like Japanese water stones, but not as fine, and I believe it cuts faster.
