Re: A bowie in progress.

Something I tend to do on large knives- Hand stoning the bevels flat. I use these green stones I get from gun shows. They are sold as surplus, and I believe they are sharpening stones used to dress milling machine cutters. I use them because they are a fine grit stone that really lets me get a smoot...

Re: A bowie in progress.

The blade is now cut out, and the bevel ground in.
The guard and pommel cap materials are shown in rough form, with their eventual shape drawn in marker.

A bowie in progress- Complete.

I do not normally do in progress stuff when making knives. I have had issues in the past with being asked questions that were hard to answer, or impossible to answer because of assumptions from the questioner based on bad add copy from sites selling import blades. However, I am currently in the proc...

Re: WTB: 11th/12th Century Dagger

Are you looking for a sword hilted type dagger, or a more common type such as a ballock dagger?

I have steel that I could use for either.

Re: WTB Cut and Trust helm and Weapons

Hm, not wanting to discourage you. However, purpose made, rapier legal helms are an equivalent amount of work to making heavy list helms, so they are equivalent in price, or more expensive on average. Modifying import 18 gauge helms has been a popular way to make rapier helms, but still requires the...

Re: Two antler belt knives and sheaths for sale.

Within the size range I can use. Straight enough to make a comfortable grip. Low enough price that I can afford to offer the finished knife for my usual low price range. Thats as close as I can mange to describe, I'm afraid. Theres too many variables for me to be able to give more precise answers, a...

Might want to mention your head size as well. :) -Badger- Greetings all. Looking to possibly bump my early Rus persona up a bit and was wanting to price out a Zischagge styled helm. Something akin to the Winged Hussar kits, would like it to be plan jane, munitions grade. Just looking to price out or...

Leather rapier sheath for sale

Simple stitched tube sheath in about 9-10 ounce tooling leather, made to fit an SCA rapier with the 37 1/2 inch Hanwei blade and a rubber arrow blunt tip. Nothing fancy, never used, no hanger to go with it. I need some pocket change via paypal, so this is what I can let go most readily. $50 plus $18...

Re: Knife Making Question

Losthelm kind of beat me to it- Almost all modern files and rasps are made from case hardened mild steel, and have been since at least the 1970s. There are some Spanish made farrier's rasps made from carbon steel, but they are very hard to find. They are also worth more as large rasps, frankly. Chai...

I use my own knives for crafting as well. Simply put, I can make sharper and better shaped tools for shaving leather, ripping seams or other chores than I can buy. :) They may be available for a while yet. Sadly, I cannot afford to donate knives for charity events or tournie prizes anymore. -Badger-...

Two antler belt knives and sheaths for sale.

I can't offer these very often anymore. Its hard to get suitable antler for a price I can afford, for what I sell them for. So grab these while you can. Offered for sale until they sell. Antique carbon steel blades, with some of the ancient pitting left on the spine for the hand forged look. 1/8th i...

Re: Knife Making Question

Hm. I've done quite a few salvage jobs on blades over the years, so I'll give my thoughts here. If you are trying to make the edges taper down to a smooth, triangular point- This will take time and patience. It can indeed be done, and I have done it many times. I use a bench grinder and use the side...

I really need to see and handle an approved weapon before I can even think of trying to make one. The problem is, where to see one? I can't justify buying one just to study. I'd never copy someone else's work... But without some idea of where to start, I'm very reluctant to just start grinding steel...

I did look it up.
I'd have to charge you another $21 to ship first class mail to the UK.

I can do that, but the final price would have to be $76USD.

Aluminum elbows and knees for hidden armor for sale

Made for a project that I abandoned a while back. 12 gauge aircraft aluminum, made to fit my large arms and knees. I'm not sure how to measure them, so hopefully the pics are good enough to show the scale. My arms are a bit over 14 inches, with a tape measure wrapped around the widest part of the el...
