Re: wtb steel sword parts

What kind of tang ends are your blades? If these are Hanwei blades, they'll be threaded 6mm. James the Just does custom pommels and hilts. I'm a bit swamped to make sword hardware for the moment, but keep me in mind for the future. I usually make guards and pommels in 4130 chrome-moly steel for my o...

I think your photography skills are better than mine.

In any case, glad you liked the seax, and may it give you a lifetime of service.

Re: My old life is rusting away...

Such timing....

I'll probably have the money in a couple of weeks...But not before then, as I'm finishing knives that have to be paid for first.

I won't call dibs, since someone else will no doubt have the cash before me.

Re: Looking for a Blacksmith to make custom armor

It can be done, and be reasonably close to the original visually.

It will cost a LOT.

It will be extremely heavy and cumbersome to wear in steel, and almost as much in aluminum.

Not trying to discourage you, but this is not a casual project that can be done in a few weekends.

I have one of these, and to describe the steel as 18 gauge thickness is a bit generous.... More like 19 gauge, closing on 20. As such, it makes a decent costume helm, and the price isn't bad....If its sent from within the US. Bear in mind that these listings are sent form India..As it says in the de...

Re: Misericord blade length?

Too narrow. The blank is maybe 3/4 of an inch wide at its tang end. I'm planning a skean, but I want a piece of steel around 1 1/4 inches wide near the tang to get the right taper. (Yes, I'm being fussy.) Theres also a question of whether I do a skean according to the written descriptions- which are...

Misericord blade length?

So, I find myself with a length of steel that has a nice taper and is long and thin. I have a rondel dagger in the works, and I want to do something different. So I thought why not a misericord dagger? The style I would be looking to do is a wood grip, steel or brass furniture, with short arms and a...

I have no antler suitable for a large seax at the moment.

However, if you are looking for say, walnut or mahogany already rounded and with a tang hole drilled out or solid for you to drill, I have a couple sitting around.

PM me for details if interested

Spray rubbing alcohol and a fabric brush. If its wool, the rule for re-enactor's wool uniforms likely applies- You don't want to wash real wool very often. The usual is to hang it up and beat or brush dirt off the surface. A spray down with rubbing alcohol will help to loosen ground in dirt and drie...

I grew up in a taxidermy shop, so I handled an awful lot of antlers over the years. Red deer is most similar to American elk, for our purposes. Speaking from experience, elk brow tines are the best to use. Elk and mule deer antler have large, spongy cores with a thin shell of hard antler around it. ...

I've used a LOT of horn over the years for knife grips. I had access to antelope, oryx, bufallo, water bufallo and assorted wild sheep and goat horns in my grandfather's taxidermy shop. They all work about the same, except that Dall sheep and some sort of curled thing I can't remember the name of we...

A video of a guy arming with some help from a friend. Putting on the gauntlets, then vambraces? Putting on the spalders, then cuirraisse? He claims it takes 45 minutes to arm with his friend's help. Given how they do it, I'm surprised they could get it done that quickly..... http://www.youtube.com/w...

As in, the rondels need final polish and slots cut, the grip needs minor sanding and polish, and then everything needs to be assembled and the tang peened. About 2-3 hours of work. Might finish it anyway, just because its that close to done. -Badger- How unfinished? As in, bare blade with no furnitu...
