Ironbadger rondel dagger auction for January

Just finished one of my rondel daggers. Carbon steel blade, single edged, a hair over 13 inches. Just about 18 inches overall. 3/16ths thick, and while edged, is not sharp enough for more than basic cutting chores. (I can't really put razor edges on an icepick...) Rough mirror polished. 4130 chrome ...

Re: Knife Blade Blanks??

I typically use saw blades and chain saw bars. Files are a bad idea- Most American and Chinese made files and rasps are made from case hardened mild steel, rather than homogenous carbon steel. So they really cannot be made into knives successfully. Older Spanish made rasps- The big farrier's rasps- ...

Re: Knife Blade Blanks??

For blade blanks- There are numerous sources, though ebay is the first to check. Almost any knifemaker supply company will have a variety of blade blanks as well. If you're looking for medieval specific styles, the choices are fewer. Brass for guards is a similar situation, but with more options. Kn...

The last elk antler belt knife auction-sold

Auction ended. Thanks all. This was made several months ago, but I was holding it for someone. He reluctantly had to give up dibs, so I am offering it for sale here. The very last of the antique steel, and a pieced elk antler tine grip. (1/8th inch thick carbon steel, razor sharp. Rough mirror polis...

Re: Swiss baselard auction

Auction ended, no bids.

I am rather surprised.
Might be the timing, but I thought the price was fair for the work I have into it.

This will be available for a while yet.

I know of this situation through a different source.

I wish I had money I could donate, as I've known Stan casually a long time.

English rondel dagger 1350

I have finally found an example to explain all those daggers on funerary effigies. http://www.weaponscollector.com/rondel_c1350.php Specifically, the ones that seemed as if they had bulbous or acorn shaped pommels...But rondel type guards. This was a puzzle for me. I've suspected for a while that th...

Re: What is the evidence for this sugarloaf?

I've always loved that helm. The two piece greathelm made in a single front and back- I keep thinking I've seen it in effigies before, but I could easily be wrong, since I cannot think of a specific example to save my life. I've though of making one of these for myself in 14 gauge. I don't care if i...

I don't know if I'll make any more as long as that one. I am pretty sure I won't make with all the details I put into that one. 8) 14 to 18 inch blades are more likely. But all ideas must wait until I have steel again. -Badger- Beautiful work as always. Wish you'd make another long seax. Still my al...

Re: Swiss baselard auction

Thanks. :) I'd love to keep this one for myself, but I have bills to pay before my annual convention in January. There was more labor in making this one than usual. The guard and pommels plates on it now are the second set I cut and shaped. The first set were nearly twice as thick. And after a month...

They will work just fine for knifemaking. But I make professional quality pieces of the best quality I can. I am most likely being too nitpicky....But I like to start with steel thats as pristine as I can manage. The cutoff saw blades- Hm.... I'd have to see them, but sop long as they aren't strange...

Hardened steel strips for sale... sold

Okay, since I was asked.... Heres the entire remaining pile of plasma cut sawblade strips. They range in length from around 6 inches to about 11 inches of usable area. (Estimating conservatively.) 1/8th inch thick steel, from a circular lumber mill type saw blade. $5 apiece plus $7 insured shipping,...

Its about 8 1/2 in the blade, 11 1/2 inches overall. I just went back down and measured it with a steel ruler instead of the tape measure I used earlier... So its a tad shorter than what I thought it was. The steel stock is 1/8th inch. Its a fairly broad blade, as you can see. -Badger- is that 9 inc...

Hardened steel seax blade blank for sale.. Sold

Payment received, sold. I got a hold of some steel a little while back off of ebay. The seller had plasma cut a large sawblade into strips, and I got them for a decent price. But when I got them, I discovered the steel had some fairly serious pitting. I ground one into a seax blank, but set it aside...

Long sold- forgot to update. We'll try a price reduction to $160 and shipping. I'm definitely not making any more baselards like this one. Just finished a Swiss styled baselard dagger. Carbon steel blade, sharpened, double edged and a touch over 9 inches long. Overall length is about 14 inches. Roug...
