Kettlebell=Ballstake?

So basically wondering if I could use a kettlebell for a ballstake. Its cast-iron, which I'm not sure how that would work

If you don't know what a KB is try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kettlebell

Re: Its this normal?

There is photo evidence somewhere on the Archive (or a link to it therefrom) Ironic has a nice big propane tank on his property... hot hot hot. you mean this? http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq182/Exitnight/Medieval/101_2096.jpg this was taken about 2 years ago on my Uncle's farm so its actually...

Left piece is after a little flaring at the top, right piece is just curled http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq182/Exitnight/IMG_1006.jpg I notice this a...

Re: Galvanized sheet metal?

Making armour out of galvanized metal looks like the tin man from Wizard of Oz. Not a good choice of materials for medieval reproductions me thinks. Hal http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq182/Exitnight/211.jpg Here is a spaulder I made from galvanized. I don't see how it looks bad once you sand a...

Re: Galvanized sheet metal?

"Got really frustrated" with the gorget. And nothing else whatsoever said. So what happened? What did you want to happen, but didn't? What model of gorget were you shooting for? The basic SCA safety gorget is two halves of a neckband, front and back, hinged on the shield side, usually the...

I'm more interested in a torch right now. A forge is just a bit too much ATM. Plus I got a cousin who is a blacksmith right down the road from me who's got a forge  if I ever really needed.

Thank you Count, for the compliment :D

Re: Armor hammers?

I use a Peddinghaus hammer just like that one for all my raising, it is fantastic. I'd get a heavier one for 14 or 12 gauge though. Their planishing hammer (one flat face, one slightly domed) is also excellent. Actually I got this one http://www.ottofrei.com/store/product.php?productid=6034&cat...

Re: Armor hammers?

Phhhhuuuuu.... what a sigh of relief, I was having real doubts. I was talking to a waiter guy who you can ask questions about there products, and he was saying that he didn't think it would hold up to heavy metal like 12gauge, he said its meant for soft metal like silver. But I guess I can only be s...

Yea, kinda thought it would deform since it being mild. But since I trying to say money and just use what I got. It would be great to turn them into stakes even though they might not last forever

About 4 to 5 in diameter, and about an inch deep. What I've done is drill a bunch of holes in the circle area, Example, drill about one inch right hole in the center of the circle, and as you get closer to the edge of the circle drill less and less deep. Since its going to be in a bow shape. Note: U...

So I got multiple pieces of about a foot long and about an inch thick, an inch and a half wide, mild bar-stock.

Could I make stakes from mild steel, thats the main thing I'm wondering. If I can what are the most used stakes that a novice armorer could use? From the size of barstock I got

Re: Throatless Shear?

Get a throatless B2. I have one and its the funniest tool ever. Its like cutting metal with scissors. Try to get one used though, to save a couple hundred bucks. Its quite, simple to use, don't need any power other than an arm, and authentic.
