Eye protection, check. Shooting glasses get a face shield,(no kidding my uncle got a piece of metal in his eye grinding wearing his glasses) it has way better protection than shooting glasses. Rubber/ dead blow hammers

How well would rubber hammers work in the place of leather hammers.

Since they are much cheaper I might get one, but only if they work as well.

Were to get rattan?

since I'm not part of a SCA group yet, I was wondering where to get a rattan stick so I could make my own weapon.

Also is rattan the only type of wood thats allowed in the SCA?

When I was working on my buckler I was wipeing it down with a sanding pad. The only thing I've used so far is 3/16in, but like every one else says it depends what your making. In genral I guess the thicker the metal the bigger the rivet.
