Bad news about Afghanistan SCA Armor
Hello List, In 2010, I had posted a request on the Armor Archive for help in getting us armor for practice at Bagram AB in Afghanistan. The list came through wonderfully, and we had donations to help build up a supply of armor and swords. I just found out today that out "Closet of DOOM" has been des...

Glasgow Museum buff coat and/or Dutch cloak
I recently saw a picture in a book with pieces from the Glasgow museum (not sure which one), and there was a white buff coat, labled as a Dutch Cloak, or maybe a Dutch Cassock. It is a late Elizabethan piece, this one was unlike any I had ever seen before. I am wondering if anyone might have picture...

Re: Any Fighter Practice in Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan?
Hi List, There are a few web sites for SCA in Afghanistan. I had a web page for the Bagram practice on Facebook. m and a Yahoo group: scaafghanistan@yahoogroups.com I had a heavy and rapier practice in BAF in 2010\2011. It was through MWR, and we did file a risk assesment with base ops. I can tell y...

Re: U.K. Armour Tour input
I can't recommend the York Castle Museum enough (heck, ALL of York is great!) York has the distinction of being a nearly intact medieval town. That alone is worth it. I used to know the armor curator there, Keith, who is a re-enactor. I don't know if he's still there. The thing with this museum is t...

Re: Back from Afghanistan, now to finish my project
In what way? Do you think it would be too old or too new? When I was doing the research for this, Don Sean gave me an archiological study of some armor found in the new world. For the early James Town settlement, they had been issued jacks like the one I made, but they were considered old and surplu...

Re: Pattern Question on a Jack of Plates
I just finished building one of these, pix in the link here... http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=132904&hilit=jack+of+plates I am working on another one now. The thing to note on them, as said in this post, was to know the true waist. If you have built other doublets...

Re: Back from Afghanistan, now to finish my project
I'm doing boarder English/Scottish 1599 ish. So, I do cut and thrust rapier and junk. I am going to use this for heavy and C&T. Research I have shows this to be common from the 1580's on up. Examples I have seen in England and in print are pretty much in the late Elizabethan era, which is safe f...

Re: Back from Afghanistan, now to finish my project
Thanks Tadeus. God I know. All I need is a few SAPI plates and I'm good to go. It is about 30 lbs. Before I shipped out last year, I was running the track at the Y in this. I think I need help. As a side note, yea, more than once we came under attack while we were doing heavy practice... We all crow...

Back from Afghanistan, now to finish my project
Hiya list. I am happy to get back to work on my Jack O'Plates. I have a few more panels to finish on, but it's functional now and I have used it a few times. Now for the big question: What to wear with it? Shell is made of the best canvas I could find, 15 layers of cheap inner canvas from Home Depot...

Gear in Afghanistan
Meanard,
I also have gear here at BAF. I am going home in April, and am looking to either send the gear to Shindan if they want it, store it here at BAF or pass it your way. Please let me know.

Afghanistan SCA
Hi Everyone, I also wanted to plug the practice we are doing at Bagram. I have lot's of heavy gear and fencing gear (in no small way because of this site. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!). We practice Sunday and Thursday 1900 to 2200 @ camp Cherry Beasly. I have all the stuff, just need more people. You can c...

What to wear
My two bits: If you are doing rapier, dress like the people doing rapier. Persona has little to do a bout. Meaning, if you do 13th c. Viking, try to explain to me why a 13th c would even hold a rapier, much less fight with one. Also, a lot practices in period were done in shirtsleeves. At any rate, ...

We have a BAF heavy, rapier and cut&thrust on Sunday and Thursday at camp Cherry-Beasley (by North DEFAC) 1900 to 2200. If it's cold, we go inside to the MWR building next to the Red Cross building.

Bagram Afghanistan update
Thanks everyone who has sent us armor and equipment this past year. We are still maintaining an SCA practice and have a facebook page; "SCA Bagram." It's getting cold here and that means we may need to move indoors occasionally, but that's all good. There have been several SCA folks who ha...

Thanks for the offer, I'll look at the prices and such. Mainly I am going to buy it and leave it here in Afganistan, so i was hoping for loaner/used level stuff. I have browsed your offerings and I might say that if I purchased a shirt, it would be pried from my cold dead hands. Very nice stuff. Sor...

WTB maile shirt
Hello Archive,
I am looking to get a maile shirt, preferably black flat ring rivetted. It can be used and in poor shape, not a problem. I am in Afganistan right now, and I would need it shipped to my APO.
Please let me know?
Thanks.

WTB Black flat ring rivetted maile size L
Greeings Archive,
I am looking to buy a large (50+ Chest) black flat link rivetted chain shirt. I would need it shipped to my APO, and can pay via paypal. Anyone want to get rid of one? It can be in crappy shape, since it's going to live in Afganistan.
Thanks!!!!

Thanks Lara and everyone else. The responses are just awsome. OK, I am going to give out my APO, but it should be for small (ish) stuff. I am going down tomorrow to hunt down the MWR guy and see what I can get from them. They are VERY hard to find. Damon L. Pipkin HHC, 359th TTSB BAF, APO AE09354 Af...

Gear for Troops in Afghanistan
Hello Archive folks, I am Don Samuale McTavish, from AnTir. Currently, I'm at Bagram AFB in Afghanistan. We are looking to start up an SCA practice here, so we are looking to see if there might be any loaner level gear that can be sent here. We would need only about 4 sets total. I was aware in the ...
