There is a company here in Oz that does electro-plate on plastics, and wood, and foam, and absolutely anything according to them. I'll see if I can dig up info.

If it is felted wool, it will not be woven but just be compressed wool fibres in a random pattern, if it is fulled wool it will be woven with the fibres thickened using one of various means. They are used for different things. I dont know much specifically about 900AD, so I will leave that to someon...
