Well I only have 1/4 padding in there. My only concern wih the felt is, how does that stand up to some uber duke's hulk smash? There are some big fellas here that hit hard and carry a big stick.

To get any half decent protection over the knuckles I had to put the back plate really high on the glove and it doesn't cover the top of my fist when grippin a sword. If a shot slides down the side of my sword it would go slamming straight into my knuckle on my index finger. I can't figure the thumb...

I would like some pics of the helm if you don mind. I think the lamp I have would be perfect for that. Like I said though it is entirely the wife's call. I could check goodwill here though. They usually have a pretty big stockpile of them.

And is the plate just a rectangular plate that is dished just enough to lay flat over the fingers? Or is it shaped over the knuckles and flat on the back to where it slides into the back plate? Soooo many questions. Lol

Well the only time that opening my hand is an issue is when switching my grip with great sword or reaching for a backup weapon. I want them to move enough that i'm not fighting my gauntlets while adjusting or grabbing for my weapon.

Well right now i'm barely able to get enough movement to get enough grip to really hold on to my weapon.
