Re: torch with gas saver
Thank you Mac! I wasn't sure if I should consider adding a rubber grommet or two, but now I won't worry about it.

Mac-
I was searching for a hands free solution and found this thread. Besides that ring using clamping pressure, what else did you do to insure the torch doesn't slip out? Or have you found that the clamping pressure is sufficient?

Re: 16th Century Woodcuts - Maximillian's "The Weissking"
I absolutely love german woodcuts. If I had about 12 more hours available per day, I would be tempted to try my hand at creating my own woodcut images. However, I don't, so I just stare at my favorites.
That four volume set would be great to have, but out of my price range

Re: stake surface radius for raising a breastplate
I will definitely try it from the inside. Unfortunately I'm all out of thicker material, all I have left at the moment is 16 gauge mild until I get more 1050 from Admiral Steel.
I have a feeling the outside surface will actually be fairly smooth and not need planishing once the shape is right.

stake surface radius for raising a breastplate
I started raising a peascod breastplate today and ran into a few issues. The largest raidius stake I have is a 4" ball stake. Even with care, the first completed pass came out way too round for what I need. I know I need to find or make a mushroom stake with a lot larger radius curve to it to achiev...

Try out oxy/propane afford to get the extra parts needed, like the right hoses, etc. Much much cheaper to run that oxy/acetylene. Keep in mind you can't weld with oxy/propane, but it is definitely a money saver in the long run with using it for heating metal. Good work though!!! I would avoid grabbi...

If I decide on a black can I get a black like this with Oxpho Blue? Re: Looking for Breastplate for my wedding
You might want to post your measurements and time frame. Someone might have something laying about thats the right size that they would be willing to sell or loan to you. It sounds like a peascod would be fitting. Do you have a modern pleated and sewn kilt or the older style wrap it a around a few t...

Re: Another Riveted Maille Question: UPDATE: Rivets! 01/29
I think your drift is not punching a hole and instead is cracking out the side of the mound because the receiving hole is too big. You might try punching into a smaller hole. I never had any luck with getting the watershed in my rivet setting tongs. Steve I think the hole might also be the wrong sh...

Re: Anouther set of promises from Westcoast....
Honestly, a petition to the board of directors would be a better route than just jumping to a lawsuit. I'm pretty sure there are more than enough people that would sign it, enough so that it would really get the BoD's attention. If it doesn't then its time to have a lawyer involved. I'm just leary ...

Re: Another Riveted Maille Question: UPDATE: Rivets! 01/29
I talked with Eric Schmid, he says the watershed was created during the riveting process. Following his advice has worked out pretty good. But there is a trick to doing it! You want to flatten the overlap only enough to make it possible to pierce. It makes piercing a pain, but when you set your rive...

A quick google search yielded some helpful info. Medium general purpose ceramic media has light deburring capabilities. The next step up was sf (super fast) with good deburring capabilities. Df (dense and fast) has agressive deburring capabilities. I would assume your tumbler came with a general pur...

Re: Minimum thickness of sca armour?
I have to agree with Konstantin, 22 gauge is right out. I'm a bit more protective over my hands and joints, so I tend to go a tad thicker than most. I use 16g mild for elbows and knees like everyone else, but also use 16g for the lames. I view them as being small pieces and easier to deform so I mak...

Historical shield construction and SCA use
So after seeing Gerhard's shield tutorial, I started thinking about making a historically based shield, but then put it on the back burner. The recent thread about shield edging inspired an idea. The absolute big question is... If I construct a shield using the same techniques as Gerhard, would it b...

I agree, tapering the slats would help a lot, as well as putting some curvature into the slats length wise. It looks like they are also too long. Honestly, padding is all a personal preference. Some like a lot, some like as little as they can get away with. Just ask someone to give a "good" shot to ...
